Hi,

My parents live in New Plymouth and would never switch from Telecom so I was just wondering if there's any plans on a UFB launch in New Plymouth?

I assume this is not for open discussion but marswell try anyway.

Cheers,
Tom

The Fibre LFC there is Ultrafast Fibre who we don't have any agreements with to my knowledge so basically there is no ETA at this time... I would guess they will be the next LFC to be picked up since we're already working with Enable (In Trial) and Chorus but that is purely speculation

Hi Tom, work is underway to get UFF signed up and to enable connections across the UFF areas (Hamilton (incl outlying areas), Tauranga, New Plymouth and Wanaganui). Commercial launch dates etc are commercially sensitive, so won't be announced here. They are also dependant on UFF being able to nail the customer experience that Telecom is after.

So until then, hold tight, but be assured we are working on it.

Thank you for the response and good to know that it's at least being talked over :)

You mean keeping the legacy piece of copper that the fibre network is meant to be replacing? Hehe :)

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster and even more now as they are upgrading their rural Conklins. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend $195 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

Lol.  Nice one.
Actually this particular one has nothing to do with the copper - UFF aren't allowed to touch that as it isn't owned by them.  But I'm sure you knew that :)

Dang if you're going to give my colleagues jip I am not sure how often I could keep on helping you out....

It's not always about the copper but I am sure a Master Filter would sort any issues.

Hehe, yea I know it's not all about copper; and at least you guys have fibre plans into a few more areas than some other ISP's. Got a few customers who I'm about to move ISP due to no fibre plans yet, alas I can't send them your way as they are in UFF areas too :(

Don't be so sure about that.. ring up 123 and get them to register interest... as that way they will be contacted when it launches.

Convince your parents to go with snap -- telecom are way too slow.

Closer. There are very good reasons why it is taking longer than any of us would like.

Would it be fair to say life would be different if Chorus won all regions in NZ? (as in easy for a ISP to deploy to all towns)

Sorry, but not a topic for an open forum, and I am not at liberty to spill the beans.  Suffice to say, if you knew what I know, you'd understand why we have not launched.

I realise that's not really helpful in terms of answering your question and is cold comfort for those waiting patiently for UFB, but it is the reality of this brave new world.  Be assured that Telecom is working on this with a great degree of focus.

No matter who won the UFB contract, if there was only a single supplier, then it's a given that it would be easier for all service providers.  That said, there are downsides to only having a single provider too from an industry perspective.

Like I said in my previous post, Telecom is working very hard to be able to serve Ultra Fibre in all areas where it is available.  We appreciate people's patience.  We need to get it right.
