cbrpilot: Closer. There are very good reasons why it is taking longer than any of us would like.

What are those reasons?

Sorry, but not a topic for an open forum, and I am not at liberty to spill the beans.  Suffice to say, if you knew what I know, you'd understand why we have not launched.

I realise that's not really helpful in terms of answering your question and is cold comfort for those waiting patiently for UFB, but it is the reality of this brave new world.  Be assured that Telecom is working on this with a great degree of focus.

its always about money :)

Amazing that people would wait this long for telecom when there are very good ISPs already offering services in New Plymouth. Both Orcon and Snap are excellent ISPs which offer service in New Plymouth.

This is the brand recognition and trust that Telecom are throwing away with their rebrand. Amazing.

You know how it is with parents... They don't even care that our internal wiring is so screwed that we're only getting 6/.5 on ADSL2+.

While it's good to see updates from Telecom staff in this thread, it's a real shame that this is taking so long. My parents (and many others I'm sure) don't appreciate the concept that even though fibre is at the street (and has been for a long time), they still can't sign up with Telecom for UFB. The longer this goes on the more likely it is that I will be able to convince them to go with another provider.

JokezNZ: Hi,

My parents live in New Plymouth and would never switch from Telecom so I was just wondering if there's any plans on a UFB launch in New Plymouth?

I assume this is not for open discussion but marswell try anyway.

Cheers,
Tom

They may have an issue when switching to Spark which is something they may be forced to do.
I suggest giving Primo a call

Strange that the biggest co. is the slowest off the ranks. I had to change ISP back in Aug 2012 because TC had no UFB offering. Good way to lose customers.

@JokezNZ. Yep, I find it hard to get anyone to get off their butts and go with UFB. Like you say, doesn't matter if their ADSL is crap! I know two people in this position.

Hi everyone, if you check the Telecom address checker, you'll find Telecom Ultra Fibre is now available in the following areas:
Hamilton
Cambridge
Te Awamutu
Tauranga
Tokoroa
New Plymouth
Hawera

Wanganui is still a work in progress.

My views are my own, and may not necessarily represent those of my employer.

Congratulations!

And our lengthy headstart in our central North Island markets has ended.

Now the real competition begins :)
