Hi all,

I'm going show my ignorance and ask what is probably a stupid question:

Telecom call it their "Fibre Gateway", but is it really just an ADSL/VDSL/Ethernet router?

When connecting to fibre is there a separate "fibre box" that converts fibre to ethernet, then the ethernet plugs into the HG630B via the WAN port?

ONT is what the fibre connects to

This is a RGW as every other ISP has. The ONT terminates the fibre and converts to Ethernet in simple terms. This is a WiFi AP in simple terms as well.

Yes the ONT connects via the WAN Port.

The Fibre to Ethernet box is called an ONT, and is owned & installed by the LFC or Local Fibre Company (ie Chorus or Enable or UFF or North Power). Telecom have no ability nor do any other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) aka Retail Service Providers (RSPs) to plug into the fibre.

So it will be a ADSL/VDSL/Ethernet that plugs into LAN1 on the ONT.

That's the box Telecom will supply.

Ethernet from ONT goes in the blue.
DSL service in the grey.

Thanks everyone for the answers. This is what I thought, but couldn't really get a straight answer out of Telecom.

Much appreciated.
