If your iphone/ipad is still showing Telecom NZ try turing Flight Mode on and off. I've found this changes the network name to Spark NZ.

steve98: Luckily the company's corporate website www.sparknz.co.nz shows that they can still do 'professional' and that the current awful youthy branding isn't set in stone.

I like the new Spark(retail) web site look, they have escaped the boring and staid legacy SOE look.

Received today:

The company that for the past 27 years New Zealanders have known as Telecom has today changed its name to Spark New Zealand.

Managing Director Simon Moutter says the decision marks the latest and biggest step in the company’s transformation over the past 18 months, reflecting huge industry changes and global shifts in communications technology.

“We now do much more than provide a copper line telephone service and we no longer own the fixed line network. We’re into a whole raft of new technologies…business cloud services, data centres, Internet TV, whatever new is around the corner. The Telecom brand simply didn’t reflect this new world.

“Over the past 18 months we’ve listened carefully to our customers, improved services and lowered our prices dramatically. We’ve innovated with public WiFi zones, launched new Cloud services, partnered to offer free Spotify Premium, launched Ultra Fibre, and more. But despite all these changes, we know many New Zealanders – particularly among the half of the population who are under 35, or those from more diverse backgrounds – think Telecom is ‘not for them’. The same applies to former customers who may have left us many years ago.

“Success for any business means staying relevant to existing customers while also attracting new ones. Spark will be a stimulus for new customers to take another look at what we have to offer, and we think they will be pleasantly surprised.”

Mr Moutter says the change to Spark is not about dismissing Telecom’s heritage, but rather about building on it and taking it into the future.

“We know many of our long-standing customers are happy with the Telecom brand. That’s fantastic, and these customers are hugely important to us. As Spark, we’re absolutely committed to continuing to deliver and improve the services our current customers value while also building a business that will keep them at the cutting edge of global technology.”

Mr Moutter says that another big part of the brand change is the company’s medium-to-large business and IT services division, Gen-i, becoming Spark Digital.

“The needs of our business, enterprise and government customers are changing just as fast as those of consumers. Spark Digital will provide our customers with ready access to leading infrastructure, capabilities and skill sets as they meet the demands of an increasingly globalised, connected and mobile customer base.

“Today, technology is a vital part of all our lives and businesses – allowing us to do amazing things we wouldn’t have thought possible even a few years ago. As Spark New Zealand we’re determined to deliver for our customers and for the future of New Zealand,” said Mr Moutter.

Mr Moutter said that Spark would be announcing a number of exciting new initiatives over the coming weeks and months, and that the first of these – which begins tomorrow – was simply about saying a big ‘thank you’ to its existing customers.

The Spark Thanks reward programme has been designed around what Spark customers have told the company they love: music, movies and technology. The programme will offer customers discounts on movie tickets, and early access to and discounts on concert tickets, through strategic partnerships with premium brands Event Cinemas and Live Nation. Mr Moutter said more partnerships and associated customer benefits would be announced in the coming weeks.

In the build-up to the launch of Spark Thanks, an ‘ATM’ machine has been travelling around New Zealand dispensing ‘thank you’ gifts to Spark customers.

Spark New Zealand will have the following core business units and brands:

  • Spark Home, Mobile and Business is the new name for Telecom Retail. It operates under the Spark and Spark Business brands.
  • Spark Digital is the new name for Gen-i.
  • Spark Wholesale is the new name for Telecom Wholesale.
  • Spark Ventures is the new name for Telecom Digital Ventures.
  • The names of some other business units and brands have not changed:  these include Revera, AppServ (business Cloud services); Skinny (mobile); Bigpipe (broadband); Qrious (data analytics); Lightbox (Internet TV); and Telecom New Zealand International.

My phone still thinks Telecom NZ exists. Any idea how to make it change? Reboot no help.
Cheers

Not all phones will show Spark NZ as they are reading the network name from the SIM card rather than the network which we changed last night.

iPhone 4S. Just checked a coworker's and his still says Skinny, so it's bizarre! We both have OS 7.1.2 with "Skinny 16.0".

Edit: Coworker's has now changed to "Spark NZ" too.
