MarkCerny: So what's the latest on this ? For people who are on this plan, is it the same speeds ? I am on 500gb now but am thinking of changing to unlimited to save a bit of $$.

Heres a speedtest at 6:17am

What plan are you on? I am curious if anyone with UFB is using this plan......

VDSL Unlimited, taken during a peak time (~19:20).

May not look too impressive, but my connect rate here is not much better:
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:10,342 / 24,657

So overall, fairly happy with it! I think (but could not swear to it) that flatmate is streaming from Netflix as well in other room while this test done.

Wiring is due to be completed in the next few days - what sorts of improvement in ping should I be expecting? At the moment, I'm getting about 24 to Auckland which is 160 km away. Any ideas how my World of Tanks ping to Singapore will improve? At the moment, I'm getting 45-50, which is not that great...

Well, upgrading from tin cans to fibre will certainly improve your ping dramatically. That said, if you're upgrading between technologies other than those, it depends. If you're going from ADSL to VDSL, it's possible to get an increased ping if you end up on a 16ms DLM profile for example.

Also 45-50ms? Your brain can't even perform that quickly to notice... That is pretty good seeing the packet has to go to Singapore and back.

But what else am I supposed to blame my suckage on if I can't blame ping times?

I've noticed no change so far on my 500GB VDSL plan since unlimited has started, my downloads are still sitting on the same 3.7MB/sec peak as they were a couple of months back. More than enough.

The important thing is the upload speed is still on near enough 1MB/Sec.

Don't think I've actually looked at my connection info on the Draytek since I plugged it in, may be worth a decent reboot and a call to see if I can reset my DLM given I upgraded from the Thomson months ago.

45-50 from Singapore to New Zealand is impossible, sounds like an Australian server or a misreported ping to me.

The meter was specifically disabled for customers on unlimited plans. We saw no reason for users to have a scoreboard :-)

If you need to track your data for some reason, you will need to install software on your network or PCs to monitor it I'm afraid.

I'm on VDSL 150GB plan atm.

Can anyone with VDSL unlimited or even just standard Unlimited "Giganaire" plan let me know how the switch to Unlimited hurt their speeds on torrents, p2p or gaming connections?
Would I be right in assuming YouTube is not traffic managed so I'd still be able to stream 1080p?

Family of 4 with a lot of online video streaming and occasional p2p with a fair bit of gaming. Also considering streaming on Twitch (heavy upload).
Was curious how heavily traffic is managed.

Cheers!
