Leaving work tonight in South Dunedin, I checked my phone and noticed it was claiming 4G.

Hoping this is going to solve some of the data issues in that area.

I don't think there's any data cables in Dunedin, the data has to get out and walk.

mind you I switched my wife to Voda as they had 4g, to check it out ... that's about what you get with voda too - around 20/2. I thought the phone was wrong the profile the apn etc ... in the end wasn't impressed as people report like 85/40 in other parts of the country.

now we're both on skinny. it doesn't display 4G, but from this thread we're no slower than 4G (up anyway, down yes, a bit less at like 17-20)

It's been off and on for the past couple of weeks at least.

Seems to go for about 30mins - 1 hour then they turn it off again.

Managed to get 40/10 consistently but the speed at the time was around 80/12 or so.

Hopefully they launch soon.

I'd like to see you get better than 30/2 on 3G anywhere that isn't the middle of nowhere/middle of the night.

Even on a dual carrier device i've never gone much over 20Mbps.

Thats the best ive seen in Hamilton, Bay of Plenty, Auckland and Northland.

Saying that, i don't speedtest often as its a waste of data. If you've got a speedtest (or other download test) showing 30 down i'd be very curious to see that.

Seems that telecom have decided to leave the 4g on now, obviously for the rugby this weekend. The question is is it going to be permanent or will they turn it off again
