It's down yet again. At least they have it on their status page, although it is also affecting pop access, not just webmail. FOr them to still be referring to this as an issue is an understandment I think. It is an ongoing problem.

Issues Accessing Yahoo Xtra Web Mail

Telecom would like to advice of a known issue affecting some customers’ ability to access email via webmail.  Our technicians are currently working to resolve this issue.   This message will be updated when further information becomes available. We apologise for any inconvenience.

It has been up and down all day, but is currently down again. Yet their website says it has been fixed. It just is not a professional level of email service.  In a way I feel sorry for the telecom staff who have to deal with support tickets about it.

Wow, I've only just twigged to what was happening on my pop3 side. I noticed there was a correlation between getting pop3 errors on Xtra and complaints on this thread. Durrr. My ...@xtra.co.nz address is nothing more than a backup (which I don't need because my own server almost never goes down), so I don't particularly care and thought it was just a recurring problem with my setup. But it happens every few days!

Can it really be that bad?!

Yes, I was even told when contacting telecom directly that is was temperamental. I too also use it as a backup address, but as it is setup in outlook, I get the annoying popup box interupting me everytime it fails, and it stops other email accounts checking.

They do now have an update. They really need to tell customers when these problems will be fixed and what is causing them,as it now seems like a daily occurrence. Also it is a 'Problem' not an 'Issue'

The error I get via pop is the same as it has always been, which is 'service is not available' . I suspect it is a load related problem, perhaps spammers are flooding their email servers, as I also often  get the same error intermittently during peak times. A lot of spammers do signup to free email accounts and send out spam.  But Spark / Telecom aren't providing any explanation.

Yep.
The issue will be with yahoo. The issue is allways with yahoo. The issue will allways be yahoo.
Telecom will have to wait it out, just like the rest of us.

The problem telecom now has is the help lines will be completely jammed up with users who cant get their email to work.
This is a real issue for those ringing Telecoms internet help desk for non-email issues, they simply wont get through.

Yes that is a problem. Maybe Spark need a phone number just for their email system. The last 3 weeks or so, the email service has been really bad with lots of outages, and no explanations from them. It isn't a good look for their new brand, where I suspect they wanted to get away with these past negative associations.

Looks like it is working again now, 4 hours later. I wonder if this time there will be an explanation, or whether it will just say it has been resolved.
