Hi There!

I have a customer who has had troubles with the quality of her voice line for months. She lives in Parnell in a nice house. She called Spark to ask them to assist, they did a diagnosis of her line apparently and said it checked out, and she should go and buy filters for every jackpoint in the house which she tried to do. The Spark store told her they didn't have any and it wouldn't help. She went to DSE and was told the same thing. She has called me. I am inclined to tell her to call Spark and order a master filter install and then if the tech is onsite and that doesn't help, they will be able to trace the issue all the way back to the exchange/cabinet if required to get the issue resolved. Is that a reasonable approach? Anyone know what Spark charges for a Master Filter install? Am I right in that if the tech is onsite, installs it and the issue is unresolved, that same tech should be able to trace the issue back?

Cheers

What is the actual problem?

A filter will only improve the performance of xDSL as DSL sync will be typically be lost when a POTS phone is used without a filter.

Her Phone line is crackling/static and sounds like she is in a Tunnel. It's not all the time.

I didn't think a filter would directly help (It was Spark Helpdesk who told her that), but I consider a MF to be essential anyway and hopefully if it's not the filter the tech can deal with any other likely causes.

Try disconnecting the cordless phones, also has she moved locations of phones or other appliances in the time that the problems started like Microwaves Fridges etc which maybe causing interference , If there are jackpots that are no longer in use removing those may help especially if the house is loaded up with outlets.
