I have a customer who decided, at the suggestion of a Spark Business rep, to transfer all their phone & internet services from Orcon to Spark.

They called me when their e-mail stopped.  Now it seems their domain name has moved to Spark (or Melbourne IT) and has a status of "pending release".  The DNS is not working as a DNS lookup shows no records.

Spark support say they have escalated the issue to Melbourne IT, whose support appears to be based in the US, but it's been more than 4 business days now (6 days if you include the weekend)  and repeated calls have got us nowhere.

I would like to obtain the UDAI and transfer the domain name to Metaname where I can easily manage the DNS but Spark say they can't generate the UDAI while the domain has a "pending release" status.

If there's any possibility that one of the Spark people here are able to lend a hand with this it would be greatly appreciated.

You have been given incorrect information, as I believe you CAN generate a UDAI when the domain is in pending release. It is a worry if they told you that, and they don't know these rules. Have you got an email that days that?  I believe Spark subcontracts out to  Melbourne IT, which is the same as Domainz, so you should contact them,0800 366 2469  . The UDAI has to be provided within a reasonable period of time, which is probably within a 1-2 days during business hours. You should contact the Domain Commissioner if you are having problems at www.dnc.org.nz

Thanks mattwnz.  I'll try calling that number this morning.

Finally got some action from Melbourne IT.  Domain now working again.

A week to transfer a domain from Orcon to Spark.  Sheesh.
