Might plug it directly into the ONT and see if that changes anything, where is your fax plugged into? probably won't make any difference but at least I've covered all possibilities.

I have integrated wiring and so just have it plugged into a jackpoint. Spark can change the ring cadence, but mine is set to short-long-short ring cadence.

Seems like Distinctive Ring is supported on the "Connector Feature Pack".

http://www.spark.co.nz/myspark/mylandline/addservices/smartpack/

And the Help page:

http://www.spark.co.nz/help/landline/plans-services/fibre-landline-feature-packs/

So if you open the "I have Fibre at home" you'll see it listed in there, then you should be able to get the Connector Feature Pack and Dual Number and you should be away.

This is an interesting thread, but I can't understand why anyone still wants to use a fax (or fax equivalent) in 2015.

I haven't seen one for 15 years - and I'm very old-fashioned.
To me, the only advantage of copper is that it keeps working during power cuts and emergencies.

I'd love to have fibre - but we don't get it until late 2019.

Yes, I already have the Connector Feature Pack
My distinctive ring tone is one long and a series of short rings.

In many offices the Fax is hidden inside the Copier. Faxibity was created to overcome the limitations of a single copper pair. Why recreate it on IP based connections via fibre?

Tell that to the banks there are some that will still in 2015 only take sale and purchase agreements in fax form.

They most likely had set it to DA2 or 3 instead of 4
