I have recently moved my number from 2degrees to spark to take advantage of the $19 music plan. I was already paying for a music service (Deezer) so it seemed a no brainer not to switch as I am a low user so the text talk and data was more then enough for my needs and the 2gb free wifi was a nice add on, I certainly didn't move for the free wifi.
My issue is for the first week to 10 days I could easily connect to the wifi hot spot that is conveniently situated out side work, then for no reason I can no longer connect  all I get is obtaining ip. Its been a month now that I have been unable to connect.
I've tried all the suggested options to connect like forget and then reconnect and restarting phone etc. Anyone got any suggestions? One could wrongly assume that because my phone is always next to this wifi hot spot that my phone is blocked, as I can connect to other hot spots around town, I am sure this is not the case wink

Can you connect with another device? You could ask other people if you can. Even if they don't have Spark they can always just try and connect to see if it connects and there is a free trial option as well I think.

If no one else can connect then it might be an issue with the access point itself so you could try reporting it to Spark. Not sure which is the best way to do that though. There don't seem to be many Spark staff around here.

Would be helpful if you posted the exact location of the phone box. There are sparklers stalking on here.

If you go to http://www.spark.co.nz/wifi 

Then using the map down the bottom you can find the payphone and when you click on the particular payphone you will get a number, which happens to be the phone number of the payphone.

Then post that number and who knows magic may happen and it could get sorted.

Thanks for your replies, but after being only able to connect for a week and then not for over 4 weeks, the very next morning after the above post my phone had connected to the wifi before I had even got out of the car- go figure!! and has ever since. So maybe it was faulty and had got repaired ??

I just reported the one at 40 Johnston St, Wellington today to 123. Exactly the same experience.

It's worth noting that the captive portal is back on Spark WiFi now as well. I heard the backend platform broke, hence the reason it's been totally free with no captive portal and no limits for the past few months.

Interesting, I wondered if the captive portal was working. For what it's worth I managed to get into a Spark WiFi AP this morning without going through the captive portal. Maybe it's being turned on in stages?

Yes - I'm set up to connect to this system. Most of the time I have the data connection turned off on my phone.

When I drive past the many Spark access points in our area, I frequently hear my phone notifying that something has happened (email download or something) - it has connected automatically as I drive past - so no captive portal to be acknowledged/accepted.
