@Rudster thanks, I've got a server to do speedtests to these. They're all looking the same to me (under 20mbit). I also reset the speedtest log and reworked the script a bit, now just getting it to do it on the 45th minute of every hour which will give an idea of changes: https://smokeping.murfy.nz/speedtest.txt

Reading through your log, there are huge differences even at just 1 hour difference.

Hey guys,

Just for anyone watching this thread,  the network guys are working on this.

As I'm sure you can appreciate, it's an odd one that is related to upstream (which we don't directly control), and very hard to pin down and takes quite a bit of time (and, of course, since your internet is still working pretty well, just not as fast as you'd like, it doesn't get treated as top priority vs people who have issues that stop them getting any access - that's just the reality of limited resources)

Appreciate all the posts, tests etc in here - please make sure to keep sharing them with the support team via your ticket too so we can easily tag them to your account.

I'm sure we'll get there in the end. :)

Thanks for the update @BigPipeNZ! Please keep us all updated as things progress. I'd really hate this to turn into another "Krapi Cable" thread and have faith your network techs will get there in the end. Feed them quad-shot espressos and put a couple of bowls of Chocolate coated coffee beans on their desks, for starters - the caffeine overdose should help everything you've got going on right now :)

Hmm - an update. I have not noticed any speed improvements and it looks like things are just getting worse. Here is pulling a Linux ISO from a local source:

Local (BigPipe) - aria2 (multi-threaded) via Ethernet:

Local (BigPipe) - wget (single-threaded) via Ethernet:

Amazon AWS (Sydney) on a Mini instance single threaded -

Yes, an AWS Mini instance in Australia destroyed my own 200/200Mbit connection with what is a local NZ download. @BigPipeNZ got any updates on this? Linux ISO's are daunting at best to download right now and I would like to reimage my server at speeds faster than 8-16Mbit.

Hey,

the team are still working on it.  Got some tests etc being run.  Not much more to update than that. Can't promise/guarantee anything at this stage.

Since switching Bigpipe 200/200 ive noticed this site is almost unusable, its either crazy slow or times out  www.dereferer.org

It works fine on every isitdownforeveryone type site i tried it on, its also working fine on 2degrees, vodafone broadband connections as i just dialled into a couple to check,

im wondering if this is related to this issue.  (Yes, im using Bigpipe DNS) - heres a tracert showing the difference

It is a site issue. Is crazy slow on mobile broadband too. Just coincidental.

Things are a little iffy down in Wellington to YouTube; buffering and resolution step downs because it cannot make a consistent download speed. I've run a test from the router and from the AppleTV and MacBook - the same issue appears. Maybe congestion in the Avalon/Lower Hutt area?

As an aside, below is a best case gig connected machine testing that server. 306/161 but don't expect that off a residential connection, its just for best case comparison for that webnx host.

I got rid of my home server so don't have a Smokeping server running at the moment (will get this running via a Raspberry Pi tonight) however it does indeed seem a bit better, still not perfect however.

BigPipe have done extensive testing on my line to try and find the issue and are sending me a testing device to do further testing but I do commend them with trying to find the issue.

I just tried testing to the Webnx server and also a Time Warner one in LA. Result was about the same as when I started this thread :(
