Just taking advantage of the Steam summer sale and noticed that Steam downloads are classified as Gaming on the traffic monitor. Would it be possible to have Steam downloads classified as Downloading?

yes that's correct.  We noticed this during testing.  I'm not sure if it's possible to re-claissify steam downloads as 'downloading'  due to the way the system works, but I will try and find out. It would make more sense to do it that way.

Note that Steam itself has an option for slowing/pausing downloads when you are playing online - so there is a workaround of sorts.

The refreshed app was a bit bumpy changing modes today. Once it changed it was fine and performance watching the rugby tests last night was great.

The one thing that would be great would to be able to schedule modes - if I could set the evenings to be streaming and overnight / daytime to be downloading or uncontrolled that would be brilliant.

ah nice idea.   That might fit into an 'advanced users' part of the app we're brainstorming ideas for.

I'll beta test a Windows 10 Mobile app if you are planning one at some point. :)

no immediate plans at this stage.  Windows mobile usage within bigipe customers is very very small. It's not realistically a high priority to do a win10 mob app

How do you know which of your customers are using Windows Phones? I am a BigPipe customer

and have never been asked what sort of cellphone I use.

For your information I have three

Windows Phones, two running Windows 8.1 and the other Windows 10. It makes me very cross

that I cannot get certain apps for my Windows phones. Please reconsider your decision.

our website analytics can see what devices people are using to access the site (at an aggregate level, not individually).

Windows based mobile devices account for less than 1% of traffic  I'm sorry, we simply don't have the $$ to build for edge cases like that as a priority.

Here's the stats:

Android:  56.5%

iOS:        42.4%

Windows:  <1%

Blackberry:  <0.01%

and below that a few rats and mice like Linux, Symbian, etc

how about simply a webui for the other devices... would be handy for management on computers themselves too.

Extra points for some sort of API to play with it ;)

I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong but downloaded the app yesterday and logged in, however wasn't able to change/activate any of the modes and it displayed all the different usage types at 0%?

Have you been with us a while?

We've seen a few customers have this issue where there is something missing in their account that stops the link between the network and the account happening properly- usually it's customers who have been with us a while.

It's an easy fix though,  so just drop a note through the feedback section of the app (under the profile section) and we'll get it sorted for you.

cheers

Hey again,

I flicked through some feedback about the error I was having through the feedback section of the app, now I'm getting a "New User, please try again later" message come up - Been like this the last few days (figured I'd wait to see if it changed as thought you guys might need to configure something) - Any ideas?

Thanks!

Have you passed this feedback on via the app feedback mechanism?  Would be good to look at your individual case and see why it doesn't seem to be working.  If you haven't already sent it via the app, could you PM me the email address so I can link it back to your account and take a look.

I wonder if it is a misalignment between the 'virtual pipe' we create and the actual pipe you have.  If the virtual pipe is set as bigger than your actual pipe, then our system won't see your connection as being congested even if it actually is, and therefore the prioritisation won't trigger.

e.g. your actual pipe is 15Mbps, but for some reason our system sees it as, say, 20Mbps,  then even when pushing 15Mbps through it thinks "no congestion here, let all the traffic flow equally")

Could you try a couple of things for me please

1) turn all modes off (Important: do this by selecting the 'turn mode off' button, not by selecting a new mode)

2) wait a minute or two,  then try running all your tests with the various modes again.   Turning off all modes (rather than selecting a new mode) should trigger the virtual pipe to be created freshly and so should create it at the correct size

If that doesn't work,  try rebooting your modem first,  then turning mode off and on again.

Let us know how you get on please :)

I responded via feedback, I tried the above with no obvious change in traffic priority. I did however end up with all my traffic showing under Other at the end of the testing.

From you comment about actual pipe size,

my modem reports Attainable Rate (Kbps): 18760

my speed tests and fast.com report 15 - 16 Mbps when running by themselves.

my test torrents hits about 1.3 - 1.5 MiB/s when nothing else is happening.

Hey jtan,

Would you be able to try the app now? As you were one on Bigpipe's early adopters, your config was a wee bit different on our provisioning systems. We have made the changes and you should be able to start using the app now :)

I have sent through an email as well.

Can you change the app description in the Play store to mention that it's current an invite-only beta? I downloaded it after seeing it mentioned in a @BigpipeNZ retweet and I've just been puzzling why it said that I'm not currently a customer and had to find the FAQ on the website.

Unless I can hop on-board the beta of course... :)

Hi stevenz,

Would you be able to take a screenshot of what you see in the app and share it with me please? The app should be working for you. I will have a look at your account to diagnose the issue.

Hello Geekzoners,

Over the last few weeks we have been working with you on beta testing the Bigpipe app. Cheers for taking the time out of your day to provide feedback and help improve the app experience. We have officially launched today. Early feedback has been very positive.

If you have any more questions/feedback/improvements please feel free to get in touch via the feedback section in the app. Watch this space. More "Game changing" features coming soon :)

Cheers,

DarkLord/Sarvajith

I'm really liking how clean the app is not that I have too much use for it on my 200/200Mbit connection but has actually converted a few of my gamer friends over to BigPipe.

Google Play is telling me 'no eligible devices for app install'. First time my year old Samsung phone hasn't been able to install an app. Is that a bug or is my phone really not supported? Thanks.
