CaTz:

As long as it's a naked connection it is indeed best to remove all possible weak links in the connection, including all previously installed filters.

I would suggest though that you keep your disruption to your current VDSL connection to a minimum as it can be seen as connection instability during the DLM period and could cause a downgrade. I experienced the first time around. I was use to rebooting my ADSL router frequently to establish a better sync rate, which worked well, however with VDSL it doesn't work at all, it simply is seen as unstable and tries to correct for it.

Something to keep in mind while DLM is establishing a profile.

There was actually a compelling argument posted by a chorus guy for why filters actually benefit naked lines.

Physics wise, it made a lot sense. Real world, i would tend to agree. It is another point that can fail.

as for the DLM period, a single disconnection to rewire is not likely to have any effect on DLM, and its certainly not going to make it put you on a worse profile.

multiple frequent disconnections are what hurts DLM

the trick is to do it all in one go, disconnect modem, fully complete the wiring change. then reconnect it.

That way, your only looking at a single "disconnection" which DLM will be fine with.

I decided to leave the filter as is for now. I might need to shift back to ADSL and I might want to go back to UCLL that worked well for me at Slingshot. The land line is not out of question yet. So I'll wait and see.

If you know what your doing, you could always tempoarily disconnect it.

Personally i would replace that filter, I had one on my ADSL line here and after many many years of it being in-place, it died.

Was the one piece of hardware i didn't rip out and replace before logging the fault, It had very strange affects upon the connection on its last day.

the VDSL ones split off more cleanly (having a voice, Data and input side) so for the OCD, they make things so much more clear.

Well my problem is that I know very well what I'm doing when it comes to software. With hardware, unfortunately I cannot say the same.

As far as I can see my master filter is connected to the phone line (incoming) by it's orange side, but all I've read in the internet says it should be blue. Since it works, it means that I don't understand something, not that the wiring is wrong. Given that I cannot understand even the current wiring, I'm reluctant to change it.

Fair enough, Your doing the right thing in accepting you May not be competent in the hardware side of things. There is literally nothing worse than pulling apart the lot and then going oh bugger, i have broken it all!

the colours on the ADSL ones are different to the VDSL ones (which are the normal now)
