Moved house and requested Vodafone to install TV and Broadband. They are citing they can't because the line is already assigned to a different Spark customer. I know the previous tenant - she sits next to be at work - she has called Spark three times. Firstly to transfer her service to her new property - which they have done. Secondly to ask why they didn't disconnect her service from the previous property as part of the transfer as I told her it was still installed. Thirdly to ask why it still has not been disconnected.

I have called Spark myself and they have advised me that the tenant requested the service to be disconnected on 2 November - actually they requested it on the 2 October. Basically the best and fastest way to get a service now is through Spark and therefore they have a monopoly until the 2 November when they will release the line. What is that about?

Any ideas about how I could get broadband people?

What sort of broadband?

EDIT: Oh, and this doesn't seem to be Spark holding anything to ransom. It appears to be a mistake around the disconnection date (which do happen), which could be on the part of Spark, the old tenant, or perhaps miscommunication between the two.

I will take anything I can get now that Spark and Vodafone cannot get it together.

Well, there's plenty of options, but you haven't said what type of broadband it is?. Fixed line xDSL, fibre...??

There's several wireless variants depending on where you are too.

From what you've said, it may not be a case of Spark and Vodafone getting it together - it seems to be just a case of a mistake in disconnection date.

No ransom as such, it will be sparks 30 day cancelation policy, have your work mate call spark and ask for her line to be RQ'd immediately with the billing period unchanged through to the 2nd of November, this will close the open service order and allow Voda to open their service order request with Chorus.

Understand you are annoyed but at least get your info correct before jumping into a forum. From the advice given you need to get the previous tenant to sort it out.

It doesn't matter who the ISP is. Their hands are tied because until the line is cancelled by the existing customer, Chorus won't assign it to a new customer. This is by design.

Spark have no monopoly on the line and are not holding anybody to ransom.

The previous customer has a disconnection date lodged for the 2nd Nov. Until that date *NO* RSP can touch the line.

If you want a new connection lodged prior to this then get the previous customer to contact Spark and lodge an immediate disconnect. The line will be available for reprovisioning within a few hours.
