Oh, I'd also like to say a good word about our friends at Enable for the install... Living at the end of a 100 metre driveway with no continuous fence to tack anything to, I was skeptical that I would ever be able to get fibre here but everything went unbelievably smoothly. The other three owners sharing the driveway all gave their written permission in a couple of days and Enable's contractors turned up when they said they would for the scoping and civil work (except for the start of civils when they turned up early and just did the tarmac cuts). The installer himself was on time, very professional and completed the install to a very high standard taking into account my requests for where to run the fibre etc. Couldn't have gone any better.

My driveway, from near my house, looking out to the road. The road is about 100 metres away!

How come you get special treatment with the trench dig while the rest of us just gets it stapled to the fence?

I got no special treatment actually. Remember I am in Chch and this is done by Enable, not Chorus. I asked about the options and the subcontractor that came to scope it said there was no suitable contiguous fence and that microtrenching was unsuitable because they had to lay 4 conduits down the drive. There was also no lawn to go under. This was basically their worst case and required full trenching. The subcontractors that did the scope and the civil works didn't know it was an install for a test line/Spark employee... The actuall installer did know because I had to give him a special ONT when he got here for the second line instead of the one he had from stock.

Cheers -N

Just wondering, how much data is transferred per each test? [Curious]

Lots! :-)

Just measured it now and it's 1.8GB download and 960MB upload.

That's insane really :-)

Cheers - N

There is a fault with the online upgrade thingy at the moment that looks like you need to sign up for a new contract or pay money and get a new modem.

This is _NOT_ the case in reality. The easiest way is to use the online chat. There's an urgent case opened to fix the issue but until then online chat.

There is one funny exception though... There may be some Fibre 100 customers that have a HG630b router, either because they upgraded from Fibre 30 to Fibre100, or due to ordering issues... While the 630b is fine for Fibre100, it's not gigabit capable so you will need an upgrade to the HG659b (or BYO favourite gig capable router).

Cheers - N

Can Spark provide a clear and rational explanation, to why the Business naked unlimited MAX service is $68 more expensive than the Residential naked unlimited MAX service? am I wrong in thinking they are both exactly the same Bit-stream GPON Service, they even have the same name. Does some idiot in the marketing department not think I am smart enough to find the residential part of their site, laughable.

It will be a while (maybe 3 -4 years) till you see that really happening. With 16 -> 24 nodes per 2.4Gbit with 10Gpbs+ backhaul, and the fact that no one is consistently smashing a circuit at any given time, you probably will get a fairly good speed.

The phone is plugged into a jackpoint that must end up hooked up to the ONT. But idk whether its wired into my old wiring currently or just the "One phone jackpoint"

Don't want to pick the wrong option and end up breaking something.
