We had this happen a few months ago.  Spark were rather good with their response and tracked down the issue to being a bad update with outlook.  Have you recently updated outlook?  I remember the pain of having thousands of emails downloading constantly.  Took microsoft at that point a week or two to get an update out.

i would love to bring this particular case to attention  in relation to the OP's issue.

If you possibly still have a case number for this, would be keen to give it a skim..

They are probably dreading my email.

I use Spark and only ever use webmail. I don't use an email client and I never delete anything.

My account goes back years.

Yes, the system is broken.

trying to sort a clients email, same issue, too many emails on server & was continuously re-downloading them all.
Now not really working at all

The email system is very broken

broken ... with the xtra login/pass
I can login to yahoo
I can login to yahoo email (via yahoo, not via xtra)
I can do a send receive test in outlook setup

** I CANNOT login to webmail via Xtras new webmail page. Wrong login/password error
Huh, that pass works on everything except xtra's new webmail portal

** outlook no longer downloads any emails . Just times out and nothing downloded. This is a new outlook profile
Tried on 2 PC's . Nothing downloads . (yes login pass etc is correct, as per test button in outlook a/c setup)

the system is broken

:-(

I'll offer up some usefull info :-)

For those with this issue (too many emails redownloading)
-login into yahoos email with your xtra email/pass (Not via Spark or the xtra page)
-in webmail ,make a new folder called "old email"
-in webmail , do search in the webmail search bar with just blank in the search feild
-in the search results, do a filter of inbox only, then select all (its a dropdown to select all)
-click move & move all those inbox emails
-you can only move in batchs of 10000 at a time. So just keep repeating till done . I just moved around 50k old emails :-0

your yahoo webmail inbox is now empty.
Outlook will now work again for xtra email.

Strangely, I got the timeout with just 2 emails to download , even 2 emails took 2 attempts to download .

Supposedly that was a mailbox with "migrated" status?

And I take it the Outlook client was set up to connect to pop3.xtra.co.nz not pop3.mail.yahoo.com ?

This is the procedure the helpdesk will also take you through.

If you have clear cases of things not working, please file a ticket. i am happy to skim over a case to make sure it has all been handled correctly.

Migration status can be cheeked at www.xtramail.co.nz this will direct you to whichever webmail needs logging in

Does appear sometimes customers need to do this login once after the migration for email clients to come right, this is not a clear cut case as it stands right now though.

Definitely settings must be the Xtra settings, not the yahoo settings. we are coming across some cases where the yahoo settings are inplace and affecting things.

For posting sake, here is the supported settings as it stands.

Incoming Mail Server: pop3.xtra.co.nz
Uses SSL
Port: 995
Username: Your full email address without @xtra.co.nz
(e.g. joe.bloggs not joe.bloggs@xtra.co.nz)

Outgoing mail server: send.xtra.co.nz
Uses SSL
Port: 465
Outgoing server requires authentication

---------

Incoming Mail Server: imap.xtra.co.nz
Uses SSL
Port: 993
Username: Your full email address with @xtra.co.nz
(e.g. joe.bloggs@xtra.co.nz)

Outgoing mail server: send.xtra.co.nz
Uses SSL
Port: 465
Outgoing server requires authentication

nope, not migrated (just checked)
Outlook setup was correctly . Even tried on another PC.

I'll admit, there were an insane amount of emails on the sever , going back many many years
Once emails cleared off the server, outlook was usable again

---------------

A Question for the Spark guys :-)
If mail forwarding is setup in xtra/yahoo webmail setup, will that mail forward also be migrated to the new system ?

Theres little point setting up a mail forward if its going to stop working in a month or so .

This is the procedure the helpdesk will also take you through.

The problem is they didnt . They simply told the customer to upgrade his version of Outlook
Its a pop3 issue that a helpdesk should have some knowledge of : too many old emails on server, download of email times out & starts again .

smile

I guess if you give customers unlimited email storage, then some will use it & never archive out anything, causing real issues when things get out of sync.

That is unfortunate, Would love to skim the case notes then.

It is a pop3 issue, and as expected. when it gets out of sync, massive issue :/

As a side note:

Imap is great - as it synchronises email between devices, including sent mail and mail moved from one folder to another

BUT!!!!

It is notoriously dreadful, slow and flakey if you have lots of email and /or lots of folders.   as soon as you have lots of subscribed folders it takes forever to sync and often ends up in trouble.

Find a provider that gives you activesynch / Exchange Web Services (EWS)  -
