checking our the specturm, it's looking much cleaner.

Still not so keen on the almost sinewave like motion on the connection but think @coffeebaron has outdone himself again.

66/8 on 8b is not bad! also the drop in attenuation is great!

Coffeebaron - thanks for doing a neat job of putting in the master filter, very professional. The connection stayed live on the Huawei router over the weekend (we were away so I wanted to check it didn't hang straightaway!)

I have found a beta firmware from Asus for my other router so will keep an eye on how that goes, unfortunately the Huawei seemed to drop randomly (undiagnosed, perhaps due to rogue phone/filter issues), and it had issues issuing internal IPs via powerline adaptors...

To sum up, since I joined, I've gone from 53mb (8.8dB / 2.0 dB attenuation):

to 62mb (Hio tinkering + changing to another jack):

to 66mb (changing to new master filtered jack):

Thanks to both Hio and Coffeebaron... Hopefully the guys at the Asus forums are as helpful!

Cheers

Charlie

hio77:

can't that ETP simply be replaced with a... reasonable one?

No, its a multi line feeder to the units, so would need Chorus to install a more modern multi dwelling ETP. NB: picture was of course before I finished securing cables and filter etc. :)

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster and even more now as they are upgrading their rural Conklins. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend $195 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

Feel like your Asus? modem there is slightly miss reporting attenuation FYI.

once ddDLM hits you, i'll be very interested to see how you line goes!

i suspect jumping to a good 80/30 would not be impossible..

Thanks Hio. It's a beta firmware so perhaps the stat's aren't accurate!

Is there a max on the Spark VDSL package - for some reason I had 70 as a maximum...

Max depends on linecard, Broadcom linecards will do 100/50.. Ikanos will do 70/30.

For reference double checking graphs, your on a broadcom linecard.

Quite close to cabinet, so certainly potential for a bit more speed once DLM & ddDLM have some time to adjust.

Reason i put it down to ddDLM is attenuation wise its not quite 17a. But should be..

With ddDLM doing 17a via diagnostics this would be a perfect candidate

A likely story. I am sure you just zip-tied the master filter onto one of the terminals and then left the ETP slightly open so a bit of water can get in.

Toteslegit bro.. toteslegit.

Yes, sorry I left the picture out with the filter Blu-Tacked to the wall :)

Line test results are in, looking very clean indeed! next to no errors there too :)

I must complain, there is a bit of variance around bin 594, guess you might have to go back out @coffeebaron :P

After having solid internet since the filter install, it dropped again this morning (same issue with DSL up, but can't keep a ppp session going). Going to pursue the modem firmware side of things now...

On the plus side, we're up to 70/28 speed wise. @Hio77 you mentioned that I was on a broadcom card and should be capable of 100 downstream - does this mean it should keep adjusting upwards? It shows a max speed of 111mb on the router.

Hio - one more question - there's a router setting for VDSL Profile (30a/17a/12a/8a) - what should it be set to? God knows if it has any impact - it appears to get this automatically, it's moved from 8b to 17a as you can see on the logs (was this your doing?)

I did some more digging online, and I've reset the lcp echo interval to 60 (I believe it's 0 by default) - it seems to be maintaining the PPP session, but who knows for how long.

You appear to be on a ikanos. I may have been mistaken.

Put simply your maxing the 70/30 limits now
