At my father's house for a few days (school holiday trip with the kids) and have noticed the internet link is very unstable.

Sometimes it's great - but other times it's almost unusable.
eg. Even stuff.co.nz fails to load.

Below is a screen snap of some of the settings/values from his modem.
I can't recall which numbers need to fall in what range, so would appreciate it if somebody could give the numbers a glance and suggest if any of the numbers seem to indicate an issue.

Nothing in the stats outright sticks out at me, this kinda sounds a bit like upstream congestion however.

DM me your line number and contact details and i'll run a few tests when i have a bit of free time between tasks :)

Thanks - I'll do that 8-).

In talking with Dad, he has noticed it as well in the last 2 months (and he's only got 1 Acer Chromebook connected, sometimes his Kindle).

And here was me blaming the kids ("We're not @ home kids - we don't have a 100Mbps fiber connection!").

You say that like it's a bad thingwink

On a serious note, the number of FEC errors there could indicate a problem, depending on over what timeframe that number has accrued.

With DLM active, and a 6dB noise margin on the downstream, it might be the line is just too noisy for that profile, and the errors are causing the dropouts / pauses. DLM has been active on Chorus ADSL lines for about the same timeframe you've noticed problems. @hio77 will be able to see the exactly what's going on with the line, but it may just be a more conservative profile is called for.

Of course, upstream saturation (cloud backups etc) are frequently the cause of similar symptoms, but it would pay to cover off the physical line as well.

Currently working with @3g with line tests, physical line does not appear to be dropping at all so definitely error/congestion related sadly...

Certainly is not a consistent upstream congestion thing though! at the time of initial investigations this morning sub 20% utilization.
