Hi there,

I'm new here but not new to Telecom/Spark.

Just wondering if anyone can help me with the new(ish) Spark email client. I can't see any facility or option to auto save mails when they are being composed? Unlike all the other webmail clients I have used.......

I've now lost two long, involved emails that I'd spent a lot of thought on composing (one was for work and the other after a bereavement) as there seems to be no automatic saving by the client of a "draft" as they are being composed.

Is this a security "feature" and is there any place that I can look to find what I had typed?

Whilst I am in a moaning mood - this new client is also particularly slow in loading on windows and in android even if I clear out unread mails from the Inbox.

Never thought I'd say this, but I miss Yahoo.....

Anyway, if you have any ideas about how to overcome this issue (other than remembering to save the mail or not clicking absentmindedly on a link to close the tab in my browser) then that would be appreciated.

Cheers

Ian

For long complicated emails I'd advise composing in a Word Processor or text editor and then copy&paste to webmail when you're happy.

Or use an email client like Outlook that will autosave your drafts

Install Thunderbird the free email client and use that instead of web based client

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yeah I used to use and love Eudora and it was fine until they pulled the POP servers and I've not been able to settle on a client that I am happy with. Thunderbird was a bit unwieldy for me, preferred it more spartan and to know exactly what the client program was doing.

Problem is I assumed that the Spark webmail would back up my ramblings like all the other webmails I've ever used before have done.

The Word Processing idea is good as the spell checkers on these webmail clients are turning me into an American!

For an Android mail client I strongly recommend BlueMail - very easy to configure and very nice to use

Cheers folks,

Yes it might save the email if you choose save, but it doesn't autosave it, like Yahoo did, Gmail does, even the cheapo webmail from my domain provider does. So if for some reason I close the tab of click on a link on the tab then it is gone. Not in draft folder - was hoping that I could set the webmail client to autosave every minute or so.

I use the gmail client on my droid but I sometimes want to use the webmail as the gmail client is managing more than one account and syncing can be slow......just more work.

Thanks for the ideas

Ian

Interesting that autosave is not active by default, However it can be turned on.

Just a quick setting change :)

As to the email in the screenshot, please don't try to use it, it is a throw away (in otherwords not monitored) i use for testing.

Thank you for that tip re setting to auto-save after 1 minute..it was also a huge problem with my drafts if I forget to save. I also don't want drafts to stay in the draft folder after I've sent it, yet they do stay. Perhaps not all the time, I could not figure out as yet when they stay, but they do. I have other problems too with emails; to whom /where shall I address it to?

Thank you for offering help! It all will help me decide whether I'll stay on with Spark after 12yrs with them.
a) still the problem mentioned before; when I eventually mail something kept in my drafts, it is mailed but a copy stays in my draft folder; I want it to automatically delete after I've sent it. If I don't remember to delete it, it creates confusion and extra time later to check whether I've sent it or not
b) When I reply to a mail, there is nowhere I can save it. I got to finish it and send it. Most times I want to bring in links or continue later, then that mail is gone; I have to go find it amongst my inbox and it could be weeks down the list. IF I AM LUCKY it it still there when I open the original mail, other times it is GONE, with so much written! There is nowhere you can save a reply
c) Nowhere in replies to change the subject.
d) On replies there is no option to attach a fille/doc etc. I have to open a brand new email and find the address, and there is no history. For business / trade etc it is important to have previous history, as it could be over a period of time.
e) I use some of my drafts quite often, it is not meant to have a recipient. When I change the subject as in 'edit', nothing happens. I have to change it by 'forwarding' it, then got to go back to delete the previous draft on that subject.

Shall I make this a new topic ;- > SPARK LOST ALL MY EMAILS AND FOLDERS ON 7 AUGUST ?

Are people just expecting too much from webmail ?

Surely , if you want a good level of features, you would use Outlook or similar email clients ?
I allways though of webmail as something only to send a quick email when you cant use Outlook or arnt on your own PC.
