Hi all. I'm a spark customer and have just moved to oratia auckland. I can only get 8mbs adsl at best but the other day I saw a chorus van working on the grey tube which is right between me and the neighbors. It's common knowledge that my neighbor has fibre so I asked the chorus guy about getting it and he said it's actually connected upto my place and to ask spark to submit a request to chorus. So I did and spark were told that it was rejected outright.
I have spoken to chorus but they just keep referring me to my provider spark. The following is the reply from spark

Thanks for calling Spark today, as discussed, the Fibre address investigation request had been rejected, as the Chorus address management team has not yet update the fibre information to any Service provider, it happens these days, we have some customer kept on talking with Chorus and finally get resolved, below internal communication notes just for your reference.

Craig called in re fibre at his address i have submitted a service request 1-124308586213 for the address as his neighbours now have fibre (28/07/2017 16:16:32)

--“310717 I have checked this address*** Shaw Road, Oratia, Waitakere with ELID 300782324 and SAM ID 1221493 and its neighbouring addresses, all of them have status in Chorus Portal as "Unplanned". Please keep in mind that there is a CSI about Chorus addresses that you are not supposed to be raising a Service request anymore if the address is under LFC Chorus due to the B2B process. This new BAU means that our portal and Chorus portal is being synced everyday so there is no need to raise service request as the systems are both automatically have the same records so if PAC shows no fibre then there is no fibre at all in Chorus portal. Please cascade this to your team as next time we will deactivate all invalid service request without hesitations as this has been announced ages ago dated May 2017. Please see link:

Is the neighbour on UFB or business fiber? There used to be a map of where you could get business fiber but it seems to have gone now.

Very unfortunately, you're just outside the fibre zone. Fibre won't be available to you for free any time soon. If you want fibre, you'll need to ask for a NOA and pay the applicable fee (might be thousands, or more).

 

 

Alternatively, make friends with your neighbour and throw an ethernet cable over the fence.

UFB2? There's a map on Chorus's website. What does that say for your address?

I can confirm that the Chorus UFB network stops at street numbers 73 (on one side of the road) and 90 (on the other). So no numbers higher that these can currently get fibre connected, and Chorus has no plans to extend the network in this area. This leaves you approximately 140 metres away from the network.

 

As one of the previous posters has alluded to, the only way you could get fibre would be to request "NGA On Application". This is a process whereby Chorus will generate a quote to extend the network to your premise which will allow you to have fibre services, however all costs for the network extension will be charged to you, and this could amount to several thousands of dollars.

 

Currently Spark does not offer NGA On Application to residential customers. We did do it for a while, but it was found that the vast majority of residential customers who had a quote generated were then not interested in paying for it. Spark now only offers NGA On Application to corporate customers as a result.

 

Having said that, I am happy to ask Chorus to provide a rough estimate of the cost to extend the network for you. Let me know if you wish me to do this. Armed with this estimate, you can then decide if it is something you wish to pursue, however this would have to be through another retail provider.

quickymart: UFB2? There's a map on Chorus's website. What does that say for your address?

 

There will be UFB2 a bit down the road, starting at 127 and 162 Shaw Road. OP is stuck in the bit in the middle which won't get UFB1 or UFB2.

To put it in perspective, I recently had a corporate customer in the Timaru area and the UFB network stopped just 140 metres away from their boundary (so quite similar to the OP's situation). The estimate to extend UFB to their boundary in that example was over $70,000 (+ GST), mainly because it was on a main arterial highway, and there were quite high costs for working on such a busy road with the applicable consents, safety measures and traffic management etc.

 

I handle all NGA On Application requests for Spark Digital customers nationwide. I must say I very rarely see any under $10,000. That's not to say they don't happen, but the majority are over $10k in my experience.

can definitely concur here..

 

 

 

for me, i was quoted 59K for a NGA application essentially the length of my current DSL tail (Essentially 2KM a lot of this windy rural roads)

 

Realistically, compared to major prices within urban areas this quote is highly tempting...

search Chrous website of your address. if it show up then forward to spark. this is what i did but took took me 3 months. finally got all connected on fiber last week.
