Currently on the West Coast at Lake Brunner and not I nor any of the other people at our house are able to get 4g reception.

The bach we're staying at is near Iveagh Bay. Sparks coverage map suggests there should be decent 4g 700mhz reception and going by gis.geek.nz, the tower I roughly s 3km away.

I wouldn't normally mind except for the fact that there's barely any 3g reception meaning you have to go out onto the deck if you want to send a text :/

edit: I should at that I tested on multiple devices (iPhone 6s,7,galaxy note4 and xperia xa, none of which could get any signal in any area with supposedly 'good' reception.

Just from the explanation you are in low 3G coverage so even less chance of getting 4G 700Mhz and this is the way the sites are setup as voice calls don't go over 4G

Coverage maps are guideline only and the tower signal must be blocked by a hill or something else

Linux

Edit: Anyone on 2Degrees or VodafoneNZ and is that any better coverage?

I guess you're right *facepalm*

I was hoping there was some other factor as another person with vodafone had poor reception even though Voda's tower is significantly closer.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to put up with it.

Just cause a tower is closer it could mean nothing if you are over a ridge line in the house and the site panels are not pointed directly at your location

I don't believe WiFi calling is here yet, but when it does come, it could be the solution you're after https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT203032

Just reread your post, since you're in a bach, most likely no WiFi.
