I have a client running a B315 Rural Broadband device, we just requested a Static IP which solved the problem of port forwarding and now that is working well.

 

Speed is a lot better than anything else available to them BUT

 

The wifi is on but when they connect to it they just get a No Internet Access type message from their devices.

 

I suspect the issue is that DHCP is turned off in the router as they have a local Windows Server doing the DHCP, perhaps the Router isn't forwarding the packets correctly from the Wifi interface back via the LAN ??

 

 

 

Anyone else seen this or better yet solved it - I'd normally just bang in a better A/P anyway but their office is small enough that if it worked the Wifi would be more than enough.

If they have their own DHCP server, i'd suspect the issue is DHCP is sending out the wrong default gateway.

Generally most servers will flag up if they see another DHCP server on the same network. This can be easily verified by doing an ipconfig /all and looking at what's handing out the address.

DHCP is giving everyone on LAN the right gateway - It just appears that for some reason the wireless isn't getting DHCP - Perhaps the broadcasts aren't being forwarded through?

 

Anyway through a long convoluted setup the Wifi on their DSL router works and because it gets DHCP from the Server they end up with internet access via the B315. The DSL is just there for the phone system which has a static IP config so VOIP calls go via the dedicated DSL, everything else over the 4g.

 

I might have another look next time I'm onsite and check it with a laptop to confirm whats actually happening and at present its third had simply that smartphones can't use the wifi on the B315.

There is only one DHCP Server and its working perfectly for everyone on the Lan and for people ironically connecting to the Wifi on a DSL router thats there, they connect to that and get DHCP as they should and use the B315 router as their DG.

 

DHCP had actually been enabled on the DSL router for a short while, when I questioned why the phone tech had done this his reply was "DHCP only gives out IP addresses, not gateways so it won't cause a problem" - I'm amazed he's ever managed to successfully configure a Voip System???
