Right, I'm sick of hearing about iPhones, so thought I'd share a recent call-centre experience....

I bought a LinkSys wireless ADSL router/modem last week so we could hook up the wife's new laptop (and coincidentally my N95 :-) to the home network. Before unplugging my old D-Link modem I grabbed all the config out of it that looked relevant, plugged in the new LinkSys box, and low and behold realised I couldnt remember my Jetstream adsl username/password.

I picked up the landline, dialed 0800 XTRA, someone in an Indian call-centre answers and I think "oh no, how long will this take, are they gonna have access to the right info, will they be able to reset my account" etc etc etc.

Anyway, I can't speak more highly about the experience, the woman was as patient as an angel, wasn't condescending, had a real good approach. But try as we might we couldnt get the modem to connect after she'd reset the pwd.

After a few minutes the old "Could you reboot your PC" line comes out.

I'm thinkin to myself, good lord where have I heard this before, thats not gonna make any difference, I'm sick of lame-o strategies like reboot your PC etc etc etc

But sure enough, after a reboot the thing came up, I humbly thanked her for her patience, and have been happily surfing away ever since.

There that does it, my positive message for the day Laughing

Jughead: they are based in manila lets keep away from stearo types

Not all the Telecom call centres are based in Manilla…..  There are also several in New Zealand. :D It is entirely possible (and even highly likely) that the call centre you (the OP) got through to was in New Zealand, and the person simply has an accent.  Not everyone in NZ speaks like a ‘kuywuy’ you know. Now, if you ever get through to someone with an American accent, that is probably in Manilla.  A lot of the staff there learn English via American teachers and so tend to pick up the accent a lot.
