aspett:

Does this rollout mean one will not be able to receive calls when on 3G?

3G Voice isnt going anywhere. Ideally voice usage migrates over to LTE however :) It's better for you as an end user and if it reduces load enough for carriers to look at moving some of their 3G Carriers into 4G that's only going to be better for everyone.

Just a query. If we have international Android 9 handsets that have VoLTE capability, is there any reason in principle that these cannot work on Spark VoLTE if the sim is registered? I ask because I had a long chat to Spark's overseas helpdesk who refused to register VoLTE on one of our accounts because they insisted the handset was not capable. Is there a genuine technical reason that the latest offshore handsets cannot be registered?

No. However it is possible the offshore handset wont have the carrier bundle to say VoLTE should be turned on.

Flick me details i'll ask the team to have a look.

I have a Nokia 8.1 DS and the specs suggest that it supports VoLTE and VoWifi. I use Skinny mobile services.

Would there be a possibility of getting VoLTE on Skinny for Nokia 8.1

Not sure how this works, I am not finding any clear info on this.

We’re still working on Skinny, so not right now. In terms of your handset will depend on where it was sourced from. Generally if it’s from Skinny/Spark it will get the required updates to enable it when ready.

My comments and remarks are not necessarily of my employer.

Late to the party but for anyone on Dual sim Samsung Note 9. Good luck I'm stuck with some phantom error not sure if it's because this is a HK market phone or the software doesn't know that spark supports volte but 2degrees wifi calling works fine on non NZ firmware.
Even went as far as decompiling the NZ note 9 firmware and botching to the os with no change.
Maybe it's a bug and the Android 10 update might fix it

VoLTE requires specific firmware support to work. It's one if the reasons why it truly is a terrible solution for a problem.

Hopefully they make it "native" like current 3G calling but it's a bit wierd that 2Degrees Wifi Calling works fine even though I have been told it requires their firmware as well.
I'm going to HK soon so if VOLTE works on a local sim while I'm there I can conclude it's a firmware issue

Since Jan 16th evening, I noticed VoLTE becoming available on my Huawei Nova 5T (didn't buy it from Spark).

So far so good 😎.

Is it likely that VoWIFI will come to Spark MVNOs (thinking Orcon in particular)? Obviously Skinny would come first

Yes, Skinny would come first. But VoWifi is a faraway thing, as VoLTE is still not completely deployed. Not to forget the phones supported by carriers are very limited at present.

So I've got a Spark supplied Galaxy Note 10, latest software update, etc. VoLTE is enabled.

Still dropping back to 3G when making calls. Never seen the VoLTE symbol.

What should I be checking?
