Just want to preface this with I have no issues with my fibre connection, and I'm not complaining about speeds.

Wondering if there's an issue with the Auckland server (testing from Wellington)? Getting about more than half the downstream speed compared to other servers.

2degrees Auckland:

Spark Wellington:

Again, it's a non issue just wondered if something was broken

Lots of speedtest.net servers are getting smashed consistently now with the Ubiquiti users who run speedtests continually (every few mins) so their graph looks pretty which causes massive network utilisation when you have lots of Gigabit users..

No issues I'm aware of and no load issue as suggested as a possibility by Sbiddle - I just managed to get this

I am in Christchurch with MyRepublic and have also noticed the slow download speeds from Spark Auckland.

Spark can't get over 70Mbps down, but the other Auckland servers are all over 500Mbps and up to about 930Mbps.

Far more people in Auckland smashing the Auckland speedtest server I suspect those links can only handle so many users at a time

Linux: Far more people in Auckland smashing the Auckland speedtest server I suspect those links can only handle so many users at a time

This is categorically not the case. It's a hell of a server running well within its link capacity.

So why do we get such low speeds to it?

Honestly I'm not sure yet why some people do seem to get lower speeds (to some speedtest servers) - My own and a number of gig test lines (from around NZ) I have tested to the Spark Akl server have all exhibited expected performance. At gig speeds you don't even need something to be 'wrong' to cause a lower than expected result with Ookla tests. It may well be that there's some optimisations we can still do to the server. I have however seen situations where optimising for high speed can affect performance for customers on lower speed accesses.

The Spark Auckland Speedtest server has resulted in slower speeds than other servers for a while. When I first had my fibre installed I was checking speeds and couldn't work out why I couldn't get over 830/840 Mbps download.  Changing to the 2 Degrees server jumped to around 940 Mbps consistently so I stopped worrying about it! :-)

I am on Spark fibre (in Auckland) so I would have thought that the Spark Auckland Speedtest server would be the fastest option but wasn't to be. The tests below were taken in August but it has been pretty similar for months.

With BigPipe (i.e. Spark) on the 900/500 plan in Auckland, and I can't get over 70 Mbps to any speedtest server. There's perhaps a network issue somewhere...

Not an issue for me right now, I'll check again in a couple of days.

This to me sound like a device or setup issue not a connection issue.
