Can the responsibility of a mobile phone contract be done over the phone with other party in another town?

I have taken over someone elses contract a year ago and it was done over the phone.

Now I want to assign my contract to someone else. I called *123 and I think the answer I got was a bit vague, so not sure if they will or won't do it if other person is not in same town.

I am not sure about Telecom but i know that with Vodafone you need original signatures.

As far as i am aware it is fine to transfer the contract into someone elses name no matter where they live in the country. but it does help if you both go into a store together and do it. A friend of mine just transfered his mothers contract into his name and they live in different islands, but they did go into a store to do it.

It is possible to du it by ringing 123 they will need to speak to both parties and the new owner will have to pass a credit check. The old owners account can't have an overdue balance owing.

And i suppose that if the account was $100 in credit, that credit is "lost" and not refunded or transferred to the new owner?

No it will stay on the account and you can ask for a refund.
