The only "reliable" free wifi Ive come across is Auckland Transport. No hassle connecting, very rare it falls over. But obviously need to be at bus stations to access

Never found a use for it, there are a couple spots around my neighbourhood I drive past occasionally but apart from setting it up and testing it when it was first offered I never used it again. I use wifi at home & work and mobile data everywhere else. Unless you live in range of it I never saw the point.

These are supplied by Spark IIRC, unless AT has taken this in-house or given it to another provider. It's been a while since I've used PT regularly so not sure of the current situation. I recall when AT HOP WiFi first started, Spark's APs broadcasted both AT HOP and Spark WiFi SSIDs. IIRC anyway.

That is correct, there are a number of partners that leverage the Spark Free WiFi stack.

 

But you should be home anyway not out and about looking for phone boxes to get free WiFiz
