Will this be rolled out to Skinny customers at the same time? Still no option for WiFi calling on my S22+ with the 21 July update.
Phase 1 of WiFi calling will only allow Voice and Video calling from NZ: SMS and MMS capabilities will not be delivered.
I suspect it must be a bit of a hacky solution to get voice across the line if SMS support is not a day 1 feature.

Yeah I'm a bit disappointed that no SMS on day one . Guess I'll still have to leave the phone on the kitchen when working in the office as I do now.

With so many compromises its looking more like the launch is more to meet a specified date for the sake of it and tick the box for someone's KPI.
In reality it sounds like we'll be lucky to have full support by end of the year, overseas calling etc.

chris021: Telstra have done a great job of balancing roaming revenue and wifi calling. When overseas you can receive calls via wifi calling and make Australia calls, any international calling including to the country you are in needs to be via mobile network.
Telstra and Spark are quite different in how they apply revenue models to services.
Wearable plan costs for example: Telstra One Number AU$5.00 per month 😀, Spark One Number: NZ$12.99 per month 😒
I see this updated today:

Like the sound of this:
If I make a call using WiFi Calling, what will happen when I leave the WiFi coverage area?
If you move into an area with sufficient mobile network coverage, then your call will continue without interruption.
I was worried they were not going to hand off to the mobile network and drop the call. ...
Pity only 1 Samsung at launch and no SMS. My wife has a Samsung A52s 5G so was hoping she'd get it. It works great on my 52S on 2D.

No SMS is going to cause complaints from customers

Yeah pretty odd. I struggle to understand the logic there. Been a long time coming and only one obscure phone at launch. We have a 52S 5g and a S21 FE both would be nice to work day one or shortly after.
While we are semi rural, coverage that has been solid for years has degraded to a point only 3G calls work reliably and have had to disable VoLTE as those calls just drop or have broken audio. Will be nice to be able to leave VOLTE on and use VoWIFI when home
I suspect it a marketing checkbox thing. "We've got a phone with WiFi Calling " Check.

unclear if this works overseas like 2degrees WiFi calling does to reduce roaming costs. Though this gives a subtle indication it may not be. Why not just say "if you're overseas it doesn't work" and eliminate the confusion?
"A user may be in a location overseas where Spark WiFi calling is not supported."
