newbe: I could send emails before but now I can't send them at all.

Any ideas.  Wonder if they fixed this outage properly

As above make sure you are using send.xtra.co.nz with SSL Auth Port 465 AND pop3.xtra.co.nz with SSL Auth Port, 995.

I hope you people with ongoing service problems have rung your helpdesks.

That's the only way to ensure attention is being paid to your issues. (bleating on GZ is unlikely to be productive, as we've seen, there's little positive feedback coming from Xtra/TCNZ through this forum).

Thanks so much for your help with this

paulspain: I have at least one business customer who have lost ther fixed IP address on their ADSL connection as a consequence of this outage. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I had that this morning. I restarted my connection and the static ip came back. :)

Telecom's network (and I'm still a bit fuzzy on this because it's new) on business accounts with authenticate you EVEN If
you have a incorrect username/password but won't give you your static IP of these are incorrect.

So it's possible since it COULDNT authenticate you since the radius servers were unavailable still let you on the network without your static.

being the fat bastards we are, my mate and I cruised through the McDonalds drive through tonight around 10:20PM and their EFTPOS was down, we asked them how long it had been down from and they said last night...

... Oh, and they said it's effecting ALL McDonalds NATIONWIDE.

I assume McDonalds are on IP EFTPOS so it looks like parts of Telecom's network for some very large customers is still offline....

Not sure about the eftpos, but even if it is IP, I doubt McDonalds are using an ADSL connection. They are likely using Oneoffice or something similar, however I am not sure if this was affected in the outage, so it may be an unrelated issue.

OneOffice can be delivered via various means, it may not be ADSL like Internet services sell but DSL is almost certainly involved at the kinds of bitrates that eftpos requires..

Even so I believe IP Eftpos is only in a trial phase (isolated to specific regions), so with a nationwide outage you would assume that the majority of these Mac Donald’s restaurants are not using this technology. Perhaps Eftpos over POTS and hence why I think the two issues could be unrelated.

Does seem strange, but it started at the same time as the other outages, and I can't see how all of McDonalds POT's lines nationwide would stop working but everyone else's POT's lines are fine.

I guess most of us will never know what happened, but have a drink with my mate at Telecom - get the inside goss hehe.
