Is anyone else as frustrated as I am with the way their Xtra email is being filtered with the Xtra Yahoo system.

Ever since the "new improved" Yahoo bubble was sent to annoy us I have had a continuing problem of genuine emails ending up in the spam box of the webmail account.

There seems to no rationale as to what gets spammed.  I will receive an email one day from an address then the next day it goes into the spam box.  It's very frustrating to say the least. This never happened before the Yahoo bubble came along.

Effectively I now have to go to the webmail on a regular basis to check for geniune emails that may be in the spam box.  If I wanted a web based email system I would use Gmail or similar.  I don't want that so I have an Xtra account.

So far Xtra have been very unhelpful.  Their only response is for me to train their spam filter by putting in a list of people I want to get emails from.  This isn't really practical as the list changes regularly.

Since it was Xtra that introduced this new improved system, I, as the customer expect them to set it right.  I don't see why I should have to spend my time and effort fixing a problem they created.

What do other Xtra email users think?

A lot of people are fraustrated with it, I doubt it will change in a hurry.

Keep in mind that this is now Yahoo! mail and not Xtra mail its all in OZ and managed by Yahoo! I am sure that even the people who looked after the previous mail system lament this issue, possibly daily.

services like gmail do offer the ablity to download your mail so you dont need to use the web interface.
But keep in mind services like gmail exist for a reason, and its not to be great people and give free disk away.

It would be interesting to hear what other non xtra/telecom isp customers experience on the spam front.

Gmail exists to bring in a little more advertising revenue for Google.  But if you don't use the Webmail interface, you don't need to see it.

I have been using Gmail for almost 3 years now, and have found the Spam filtering to be the best in the business.  Very very seldom does any spam sneak through to my Inbox, and even less often does valid e-mail end up in the spam folder.  I gave up on using POP3 mailboxes provided by my ISP a long time ago, because Gmail is just so much better and easily accessible no matter which ISP I am connecting through at any given time.

By using Gmail's IMAP function, I can access all my recent e-mail including Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items and even the Drafts and Spam folders from as many different computers as I choose.  This is really handy when I am on the road and don't want to waste Mobile Broadband data charges by logging in to my Desktop PC at home.

You are possibly right when you say that you doubt it will change in a hurry.

I am forever an optimist.  If enough people complain to the right people in Telecom/Xtra there is a chance that changes will be made.  Hence my reason was to spark a bit of interest here.  I'm not sure who we need to target, but I'm sure a flood of emails and or phone calls to the right person/s might have the desired effect. 

After all Telcom is like any business in that it relies on the income from it's customers and to keep those customers it needs to be sympathetic to their requirements.  I don't know of one Xtra customer who is happy with the way the spam filters are working.

Yep IMAP is a good alternative and when combined with being able to collect mail from your old ISP mail account as well makes the GMail option an atractive one, and if you have your own domain its attractive as well.

I agree companies like telecom respond to the mass rather than the fringe, and infact you could almost see that as a driving factor for them moving to a large providor like Yahoo.
That said it doesnt help you with your situation and spam...

If you really feel strongly enough about it why not make you sentiments felt to Paul Reynolds, nothing to lose right?
Other people reading the thread that agree with you and feel the same way should do likewise, you are afterall the customer and youpay for the service.

When I was with xtra I just turned the spam filiter off. Only an option if don't get much spam, I might have been  luckly in that area. Found it was filitering good email when was on.

Suggest you go into Options/Mail Options/SPAM inside webmail and unset "Automatically send suspected spam to my Spam folder".

So long as you don't get too much spam in that folder that should fix your issue.
