Are you able to share with us where you got this figure from?

The thing is, among the non technically oriented people I know, there is quite a knowledge about telecom getting "sim cards" and being able to get a "decent phone" and being annoyed that they have got a new phone recently. I would say its more like 4-5/10 that know about it to a degree directly and the rest except for 1 or 2 have heard of it thru someone... And these are people that are into music and art and barely use the net..

I agree, ask most vodafone users why theyre with vodafone, and they will say "oh because telecom has ugly phones" so beyond the technicalities of the wdcma technology telecom is adopting, people who had gone to voda specifically for the styling of the handset range etc, are now aware that XT will now stock a range of comparable/identical models styling wise

and just as richms said, voda users are now aware that there will be new telecom phones that they can put their existing sim card in, or they are now in the telecom forums asking "hey will my existing phone work on telecom?

so, XT is really out and about now..

I have told so many people about the new network, but all of them were shocked to know that. They didn't know what I was talking about. I have seen many middle aged mums using high end okta touch blackberry. It doesn't mean everybody know that new network.

Most people won't use data anyway. They just txt and txt. So the new network won't make much of a sense for them.

vimfuego: So we all have to wait till 630 on May 13 to hear of the plans and then buy a phone? I understand how they have a launch time to sell the phones, but it would be nice to be able to research a bit about the different phones before purchasing. Oh, and when I go into a shop, it would be nice to test it out (like all important texting) on a real phone and not a fake one.

Surely they can release the info and just have a launch time to sell them???

If they spread it out like this, they would dilute to impact of their launch. There is no reason you cant evaluate things from launch day, and make a purchase/decision days or weeks later.

Please quote your source. That is an interesting fact if true.

And you're basing this on what?

Data usage is encountering massive growth on networks everywhere as more handsets deliver a far superior end user experience when it comes to broswing and apps such as twitter mean people want to be connected wherever they are.

Yep ... the amount of technically illiterate people I hear of, using their phone to use Facebook, dating sites, Trademe, email etc.

Data is big, and getting bigger.

That's coming from the man who is going to represent Geekzone on the media launch (the rest of us will be in Sydney on that date), a few hours before the stores officially open... He's going to know all plans and handset lineup before anyone else in the public, get to talk to Dr Paul Reynods and the rest of the crew.

Tony, you are the man!

If the launch is actually delayed then surely the launch party might be delayed also? Smile
