@eleventy

From a services perspective the two telecom networks are treated as one network. On-net is telecom-telecom whether it's WCDMA or CDMA.

I'm looking forward to being on a virgin network, for the first six months the dl and voice ratio will be close to 1:1 for backhaul until the masses flock to it.

I'm planning on doing a speedtest on my phone before I walk into the Telecom store on my current provider and afterwards. :-) Should be interesting.

XT question: Why do the TV ads have an imported TV Car expert explaining a new phone network?  How much time has he had experiencing the NZ mobile services.

It's a marketing thing - rugby player selling home ventilation, cricket player selling mortages, . . .

Oh the fundamentally pointless high gloss branding.
SPOT the Telecom dog would done a great job at it too.
Spot 2.0 would have been a cheaper waste of money.

Just curious. As the new Telecom network is WCDMA 850, should I expect to get the same signal strength where I get GSM 850 on Vodafone? I'd really love to get that sort of signal, plus it's 3G!!! Wouldn't that be great?

Seeing as the towers are in different locations, no. And that doesn't even start to consider other factors.

As you will see on other threads here, no, of the 2 handsets that have been announced so far one is due for launch day, the other not until July.

Wow that was quick. What I meant was, assuming they were in the same location, would the signal be as good? Cause they're running on the same frequency, except different technologies? i.e. would it still be able to penetrate walls as well?

Or if you meant the full announcement of all launch devices this will not be announced officially until 13th of May.

Well, its not pointless.. it's making an impact, many voda users i know are curious about XT and what it's all about..

Who cares what's been spent on the ad? It's not taxpayer's money. I'm pretty sure most people would agree that having Hammond has been very successful.. would the ad have been as successful in creating interest if Jason Gunn and his good buddy Thingee were in it? Smile

I do agree though, it would be nice to see Spot again Laughing
