c4bb0ose: As I understnad most isp block port 80? soemthing to do with spam/DOS attacks happening from there?

You mean Port 25? That is what's used to spread spam e-mails. Port 80 is used for web servers.

idk I read it somewere so its probebly not right, but do they block port 80? idk, I have had trouble opening any ports on my router, spacificly port 80 and 6112. wonderd if they were blocked...

I doubted if any ISP in NZ blocks any ports besides port 25.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Hey Doozy,

I play WoW with BigTime and I have the same issues as BigMal. During managed times, such as 5pm and 12:30am (tested yesterday) I either cannot connect to servers or I can - but with a latency of 9000-20000ms (I can't even send a message, let alone cast or check in-game mail).

In terms of tracerts, they look fine and are identical at all times except that they drop around 30ms across the board during unmanaged times (i.e. 3am)

I'll also try add some more times to get a better picture of things. Otherwise, Ragnor's post was spot on for me:

Most US based mmorpg games eg World of Warcraft use TCP/IP connections.  Typically the game uses around 5-10 KB/s when soloing but when in a group or raiding party can use 20-30 KB/s.  If single TCP/IP connections are being limited to lower than that in peak times this is where you will you see the problems.

World of Warcraft communicates on port 3724 with the TCP protocol, servers are hosted by AT&T.  This is a somewhat accurate list of the datacenters and ip addresses

http://www.wowwiki.com/US_realm_list_by_datacenter

Most NZ players would play on servers in the LA data center

tracerts are not going to show exactly were the lags coming from, I have been told it only appears when useing TCP aka the connection mmorpgs use.

anyone experiencing problem downloading using port 23, 119 or 8080 in Bigtime. Also sometime you need to manually reset your modem every 2am in order for you to get back into the max speed otherwise you will retain your capped speed. -:(

Just remeber peoples.. it's not your average simple SIF doing all this. Bit more complex than your @home router blocking port x and TCP/UDP that.

There's gigabytes (not bits) of data per second as apposed to the home router NAT of ~19mbps worth of data being snooped on and processed by some pretty complex hardware and rules.

Suggestions to allow port x ins't a simple matter of simple letting everything through.

I have just joined to post in this thread.

We moved to Big Time a month and a half ago (My partners name is on the phone/internet account and he likes to do lots of downloading so he switched over one day without asking me -_-')

My guild wars was working alright, but then in the last two weeks or so it has just gone to custard. I was managing to just play yesterday, once i managed (after several tries mind you) to get out into 'the wild' where it was only me and my henchmen, my ping dropped significantly back to the hundreds instead of the thousands i get in town.

I rang telecom about this and they
1)blamed NCSoft and that i should ring them because it must be there servers and not telecom
and
2) maybe i should only play my game during unmanaged hours oh 2am and 9am

The thing that got me is even though so many are having this same problem, they tried to blame NCSoft?

I would have been off this plan two weeks ago if I could ><

even out of town its pretty much unplayable with a spellcaster, yes its what they always do, they have done it with me as well, blamed them so I went to ncsoft, ncsoft have said quite strongly that it is not there servers ( and I believe them ) but the route and possible other interferances that the packets have coming from my computer to theres.

My son plays guildwars and he gets anything from 260 to 340 through snap so its not NCsoft and thats peaktime

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I also run a spell caster normally and i havent been able to play her at all. My low ping was with new sin (i just got factions collectors edition for the cheap *squee*) who is only level 2 so im just getting her to smack on things.

My partner things i should get onto ncsoft because that might make them get on to telecom. but i dont think that would happen. i might just ring telecome again and tell them ncsoft said its not them.

A friend of mine who is far from the exchange has never been able to play GW on big time, and another friend cant play Aion at all, but he is managing to play WoW

Big time is utter rubbish, cant watch any streaming video other than youtube (Including TVNZ ondemand) or download anything at over 20kbps (apart from locally cached things). Not impressed.
