xoddoza: If anyones interested, i'm able to actually play games on this Big Time connection again. Pings to the US in League of Legends are about 150ms with none of the rampant packet loss of before.

Well, that is fine for someone who plays League of Legends, or other such online games, but I just want my http speed back!

As do I. I get a lot of stuff through HTTP downloads, and currently cant really get more than 20kB/s from my source. I'm happy for the plan to be managed even to 300 kB/s during the day if games are still playable then and it all uncaps overnight...

Have you tried calling these people? If more people complain about this, the faster it will be resolved (or shall I say the more people who complain will create an unreasonable excuse for the problem via Telecom)!

Talkiet:
Savageone: 5:20am and i thought i'd try downloading a file as well. its not much better than during peak times. getting a max of 130kb/s. i use to be able to max my line and get just above 900kb/s during off peak. this is ridiculous. where's doozy or Talkiet when you need em :-(

thought i would do a speedtest and well, thats pretty much maxed out.

I'm still here and watching, and reporting new issues to those involved, but I don't have anything new I can tell you... Sorry about that.

Cheers - Neil G

Good to see that you are still around lol. It sucks that you cant tell us anything new, even though this new throttle on the http downloads has only just really happened.

I'm amazed at how slow my speeds are during the day on http, and damn facebook has huge lag, I can count to seven before the next page loads! Everyone here seems to use DLM's... Could someone PM me a good one to use? I tried using the firefox add-on, but the download just disappears :/

It doesn't matter what you use right now - I think Big Time is overcooked right now. Telecom has bitten off more than they can bloody chew.

We may have to wait a few years until sam morgan and co build another pipe to the states and then they can negotiate true unlimited internet with the isp's the supply to.

Telecom either underestimated the data that people were going to use or maybe this plan was competing too much with their unmanaged plans?

Who knows? but it certainly isn't the plan it was and restricting http which is what most people use to 100kbytes when before most people were getting line speed on http is a _massive_ change.

I don't think it will ever go back up to line speed,  knowing telecom I might not even be surprised if it doesn't move from the capped 100kbytes we have now...

We will see

I don't understand...

You all complain when your download speeds to everything is 5Kb/s and under and now everything seems to work while still getting 120-300Kb/s to HTTP downloads and your all still complaining?

I think the slightly reduced speed and the extra 10 minute wait on a patch is worth the fact you can use VoIP and game at the same time now. 120Kb/s is still a 1Mb/s connection with the potential for an extra 7 or more for ADSL 2+ users when the shaping comes off or gets a little less.

I have to admit, right now I can't really complain right now. The TVNZ thing is a bummer but I'm sure it will get fixed eventually.

Speak for yourself - NOTHING is working right now, Telecom have even admitted as much from their end this afternoon to me. I recieve 40-60KB/s regardless of where I download from - and this is only since yesterday morning, up until then everything was fine and dandy.

Another swift marketing ploy, I would say.

Im sorry but you are calling a drop from 900kilobytes to 100 kilobytes a "slightly reduced  speed" ??

Do you work for telecom or something? :)

I mean come on,  lets at least be realistic, a drop of that magnitude is not what most would call slightly reduced.

Except that thus far we've got no evidence of VoIP or online gaming to be working at an acceptable level. I've had days in the past few weeks where my ventrilo is fine, and others where I can't hear a damn thing. World of Warcraft has been fine, but from what I'm picking up, alot of other people are having issues with online gaming and I can see why, especially with telecom throttling SSL connections to an unuseable state.

Also, I'd prefer they just shaped bittorrent traffic rather than HTTP, as I get alot more (albeit smaller) files from HTTP.

Im not saying a drop from 900 to 100 is slight at all, its huge. But your on an UNLIMITED plan with thousands of other users trying to pull 900 down most of the time. You can't expect to max your line every day of the week.

I don't know about you. But I'd prefer 60 to 100Kb/s over 5Kb/s any day. If Ventrilo stops working I play on national servers. If everything seems fine...Well, yay.

But since a few days ago, many have reported vast improvements. If you haven't seen an improvement yet, Telecom probably hasn't go round to ya'!

I hate to say it. And maybe the CSRs have gotten to my head. But if you are having issues that effect something you really love doing, just change and keep an eye on the thread. When it gets better change back.

For those who can't...Complain until your lungs collapse.

Well your extremely lucky.
I'm only getting 5-35kB/s (Using a download manager too)
And my larger downloads have been timing out

If you were serious about gaming/voip you would be on an unmanaged plan for a start..  For the vast majority out there http is going to be the main protocol they use on the internet.  The WWW.  So a few gamers are happy that their performance has gone up but the majority will suffer that want to use http.

As for your reports of vast improvements that isn't the impression im getting from this thread or from the talks I've had with telecom who admit there are serious issues with the plan at the moment.

I waited a while before joining this plan, I left Orcon to come over after seeing how things went with this plan and what speeds everyone was getitng, I was happy until yesterday when they reduced my speed by 9 times.  Yes 9 times slower on the main internet protocol.

As for your little speech about just just change, well that is where telecom have you isn't it, because you cant just change, Id love to just change back to orcon but hey telecom would of course sting me for a big penalty I could of course move over to one of their unmanaged plans but hey, they charge 20 dollars per gig over their measly 40 gigs per month, orcon charge $2 per gig.. so telecom are 10 times more expensive on data an unmanaged plan.

That is the main thing that really gets to me, they let people enjoy these great speeds and attract plenty of customers then suddenly shut it off and say well your choices are.. pay the big penalty (god knows why we should have to when they made the radical change to the plan )  and leave telecom, or move to one of their other overpriced plans or suck it up...
