I can't use VOIP or play my game so there is no trade off for losing being able to play my game. Was working fine 2 days ago and now I sit permanently at 2k MS.

So... I've never used Steam before but heard its good from friends. I go buy Crysis online with Steam but its a 7 gig download and on Big Time im getting 10kB/s on Steam download.... I think while I download it I will go fill my bath with a straw and sitll have plenty of spare time before the games finished DLing!

Also, has the Aion lagging been fixed since Aion came out?

Aion's lag issue was fixed ages ago. There are other issues that can contrubute to this which is nothing to do with big time.

On another note, theres too many people here expecting everything for nothing. It was clearly stated it would be a shaped plan. You get fine speeds on off peek.

100KBps is perfectly acceptable!

Not being able to game/work is not.

To anyone complaining about 100KB/s i suggest you try and find a competeing plan, that you research ADSL and that you reserch NZ's internet enviroment.

Um.... I think YOU should research Xtra's Big Time plan. The plan is traffic managed, yes. PEAK. I am getting (all of a sudden) slower than dialup speeds during off peak and On peak.

Nobody expects something for nothing - I expect my internet connection which up until yesterday morning had been performing great to be put back to the way it was.

Telecom have breached their aggreement in many ways in the past, and once again here. They even admitted to it today when I spoke to a Level 2 technician.

1 - 35KB/S
2 - 7000B/S - its gonna finish in 15 hours for a 350mb file

You forget most people are using Download Managers/Accelerators (DM) to achieve that.
But in most cases even with a DM some people can't even get 50kB/s.
Now that definately isn't acceptable

The plan is Traffic managed 24/7

Telecom website: Traffic Management - We don't place an artificial cap on the download or upload speed on the majority of the internet activity our customers have on this plan. But because it has no fixed data allowance, we do manage all the traffic on it to optimise the experience for everyone on the plan. When the network is busy (generally inside the hours of 9am and 2am) you may notice reduced speeds, in particular you are likely to see reduced speeds in relation to file sharing traffic and online gaming.

So that basically translates to "We manage all the traffic, all the time, when the network is busy we throttle file sharing traffic even more".

No... currently it seems it would mean

"We manage all the traffic, all the time, we throttle all traffic all the time, we feel it is better to make sure all parties are equally discriminated against (capped).

I never said that getting slower than dialup was ok. In fact I said it was not.

In my post I was specifically refering to those people complaining about 100KB/s.

I dont forget that and yes that needs to be solved. 50KB/s is alright (in some cases) in my mind without a download manager, under that and its really pushing it because your going to cause issues with programs that only use 1 connection (ie i think steam uses 1 connection).

Kilack:

I know all too well what is happening. Im also on the plan too.

All i was saying is that 100KB/s is fine! (for all those getting it).

I was not targeting anyone who is getting less than that.

I know others are having issues (I have some too) and no i dont think it is alright. I was only replying to those who were complaining about 100KB/s speeds.

@ArticSilver

Ahh I see you were referring to those people.
I am man enough to say.. 'my bad' :P

But I'm sure their speeds have dropped to below 100kB/s
I was one of those people for the first few hours then it dropped down even more.
I am lucky enough to get 40-50kB/s with a DM

but that is the point isn't it, who are you to decide what is alright for a user? 100kbytes might not be enough for some of us, fair enough if its fine for you but please don't presume to know what is alright for everyone else.  I dont call a drop in speed of nine times "fine"
if it had been 100kbytes from the start then it would be a different story.

Just joining this discussion now, so please forgive me if this has been addressed in the previous 91 pages. But I am having a really hard time downloading .torrent files. Most of the time they either time out or take hours to download, even tho the file might only be about 200k or less.

Once (and if) the .torrent file loads the torrent downloads file, although slow. Has anyone else seen this? If so, do we think it might be a deliberate move by Telecom to try and slow torrents starting all togeather?

Adam, the way ive found to get around the fact that half the time the .torrent files dont even download on big time, is by using Demonoid and downloading the torrents as a txt file and importing them that way.

Demonoid is a private network, not everybody has access to it.

I've been having a similar issue, pmostly on public trackers. Private trackers work fine for the most part, only extremely slow when I'm already downloading.

Also, 100kb/s is fine for 90% of data. I DO have an issue with them limiting my HTTP to 100kb/s during offpeak, but not limiting bittorrent with the same restrictions. It basically means if I need a large file, I have to find a way to bittorrent it (and on a private tracker, since I almost never see over 50kb/s on a public).
