c71931f: If you have a xt sim with a number on it, put the number on the unlimited txting plan , then swap it to a cdma telecom ph, what would happen then?would the unlimited texting still work??

CDMA phones won't work with XT sims in them (only the few worldmode CDMA phones even have SIM slots, but they are locked so you can't use XT SIMs),  so the answer I think is no.

ETA:  maybe you mean swap the number to a CDMA phone.  In that case, prob what the other guy said.

I'm prepay Text 600 with a few days to go and 100 texts left.  If I was to switch now, before the end of the month, does that mean I get charged another $12, so therefore I should wait till Nov 1?  Or is it ok to switch now?
Ta

Hey there, I am in the same situation as you. I had the 600 text plan and it goes over on the first.

Well yesterday I switched over to the new plan using *333. When I went into Tworld I checked my balance and saw that it hadn't changed. I scrolled down to the text plan balance and this is what I saw:

Text Plan: Non Stop Text
Expiry Date: Sat 31-Oct-09

Usage for this period: 0

So it does not charge you a extra $12, it just changes your usage back to 0 and gives you the rest of the texts free (it hasn't been charging me for the texts that I have been doing since switching, just adding the texts to the usage).

So you can change now.

Hope this helps.

sbiddle: What a bad, bad, bad, bad move...

The lessons from $10 TXT simply either haven't been learnt and it's obvious now that that XT has obviously failed to capture market share from Vodafone that had been hoped. The problem is $12 TXT isn't going to to do that either..

I have to disagree! We hve over 100% market pentration for mobile phones mainly because teenages are carrying around two mobile phones, one for Vodafone and one for Telecom. Very savy and price aware the kids are.

If you can capture the youth market, like Vodafone did 5+ years ago, and then grow the revenue per subscriber as they grow up and get jobs and make more calls from their single mobile then how is that not going to grow your bottom line?

I remember reading the debates from the commerce commission around 2 degrees and interconnect costs for TXT messages, and Telecom/Vodafone ended up paying close to nothing for interconnect TXT messages because they both sent around the same amount of messages to each others networks.

So it's not costing Telecom any real cash, they get more subscribers, and subscribers which are more likely to carry a single phone and have a higher average revenue per subscriber.

Maybe I'm completely wrong but I can only see it as a very savvy move, and capuring the youth market is something Telecom needs to do again to get on top. Vodafone has been king of this for a long time.

I agree with exportgoldman. This is a good move by Telecom!

Unfortunately, my request today to get the $12 text plan as part of my cdma post paid number shifted to post paid xt didnt go as smoothly as i hoped.

Me: Hi, please change my cdma post paid number to xt post paid. I have a phone already, Please put me on this plan, this data and the $12 unlimited text.

Sales person: Hmm, youre open term cdma, i think youll need to go on a contract on xt.. hmmm

Me: Excuse me?? Look i'm open term, just do what i tell you to do and put me on the open term post plan that i want. A very very simple request. I have a phone and i dont want any 12 month or 24 month term plans!

Sales person: Hmmm, let me look into this..

Enter the store manager looking slightly embarrased and confirming "The customer can go open term if he chooses"

Me: Excellent! let's carry on, and I'd like the $12 unlimited text plan.

Sales person: Certainly i can do that for you.. oh wait.. I'm sorry, in order to go on the $12 unlimited text plan, you need to go on a 24 month plan..

Me: Dude.. turn around and read the large poster behind your head!.. where does it say 24 month plan?? You're getting confused with the double minutes over 24 months..

Enter assistant sales person who joins the conversation and says to idiot sales person "No, the $12 text is open to everyone on non business post paid and prepaid xt etc etc"

Me: I dont want to embarrass you any further but please pay attention to your promotional information. I'm also now on minute 29 of a 30 minute lunch break. If this goes any longer, I'll be charging you.

Cmon Telecom, get your store people up to speed! I've seen this sales person in the store for a while so theyre definitely not new. Interesting to see the store personnel. There were the usual sales people, and some trainees ( i could tell they were as they were wearing "Trainee" badges :D ), and someone who i identified as probably someone from sales head office, who was in store to assist with queries about the new promotions. She seemed to be the "store oracle" answering questions from the store personnel

On a positive note, lots of people were in the store making enquiries about the new promotions etc :-)

naggyman:

So you can change now.

Yes you can switch now and for Postpaid customer it’s fine due to Pro Rata billing (i.e. part month for TXT600 or whatever your old TXT plan was, and a part month for Non Stop TXT).

Prepaid however is a little different. Billing is based on a calendar month. Take your example, you have 100 TXT’s remaining, and by switching your TXT balance will re-set. Now you will be billed $0.20 per TXT until you have sent 60 TXT messages (i.e.  $12), with TXT’s after that at $0.00. Effectively that means you *could* pay $24 for this month. By waiting until the 1st, this ensures you will only pay $12.

At least thats my understanding of it all.

Which store was this in? Also, was it a proper Telecom store or a dealer (Total Networks, Orb or Leading Edge) store?

It was a proper store indeed. The one in Centreplace in the Hamilton CBD.

4 hours has been and gone.... That's okay, I'm patient :-)

He did say that he would process the $12 Unlimited text, but as he had already processed the normal $12.00 text plan, he had to wait for something to happen, before he could do the $12.00 unlimited plan. I said to him, as long as you do that, then no worries. I also confirmed, that i shouldnt have to do anything further, he said yes, after 4 hours I'm good to go.. well...

:-)

A little bit of detail (or lack thereof) on the fair usage as advised by Telecom to a friend of mine who emailed through a query.

This person is a heavy text user on Vodafone (BestMate with his girlfriend), who has been holding onto Vodafone due to sending 4,000 to 5,000 text per month under BestMate and having no desire to spend an extra $700 per month on XT.  Was very excited with this offer, so queried whether (a) Telecom will differentiate between on-net and off-net text, and (b) whether 4,000 to 5,000 text per month would be deemed to be outside of 'fair use'.

The response from Telecom confirmed that they will not differentiate between on-net and off-net text when assessing 'fair use', but they made no comment on whether 4,000 to 5,000 text per month would be outside the 'fair use' policy.  They did, however, kindly provide detailed instructions on how to port from "your existing mobile provider" to Telecom XT.

The lack of response possibly indicates that text use of that level will be outside of 'fair use', or possibly that a decision hasn't been made as of yet on what will constitute 'fair use'.

There is a limit - but the 'higher ups' won't tell us peons what it is.

That said, there's a reason that this has been done - a limit gives people a target so to speak, one they'll try to beat.

@Damager - If it hasn't gone through tomorrow morning, PM me your mobile number and I'll fix it up for you Smile

I *think* as long as your not using a machine to send out mass TXT messages you should be fine.
