There would never be a Telecom "branded" iPhone, merely an iPhone with an official carrier file for XT if and when Telecom were to ever sell the iPhone. There is certainly no word on whether this will ever happen but there have been comments from Telecom in the past that negotiations have taken place.

Here in NZ it makes very little difference unless you're wanting tethering support since iPhones are sold unlocked unlike in many other countries where they are tied to an operator. You can walk into an Apple store, pop in an XT SIM and be up and running in minutes. I believe a hack for tethering restrictions introduced in OS3.1 is also now available if you do want to bypass the official OS restrictions.

The only thing you do miss out on is any form of carrier subsidy, but at the end of the day there is no such thing as a free lunch..

Did you mean.. The Touch Pro 2? At the ridiculous price of $1499.00? Do what some of us have done, and saved some $$$ by purchasing the Telstra Touch Pro 2 for a lot less. The Telstra customizations can be modified via a custom ROM or with registry changes :-)

- Telstra HTC Touch Pro2 - Energy ROM WM6.5.5 20 Oct/Cyanogen Mod Froyo 2.2 - R.I.P
- AT&T Galaxy S Captivate 16GB on XT (now with brother)
- Samsung Galaxy S2 on XT- Runs ICS 4.0.3 Resurrection Remix 9.2
- Business Hours - Work In The Electricity Industry, After Hours - DJ/Turntablist - Will Scratch Vinyl For Free'
- What's next??? S3?

They were planning on selling it a while back wernt they? And Apple contacted them and were angry about them saying to people if they brang their iphones from vodafone they would give them account credit or something. Silly when their network is more compatible than vodafones... but atleast we arnt locked though, so if you buy one from apple directly, that would be the same as if you brought it from telecom because telecom cant open the box can they?

Not quite, yes the actual phone is that same, but without an agreement, you do not get an official carier setting file, meaing you do not have access to data tehering on XT, unless you jailbreak you phone.

Not true, I know people with non-jailbroken iphones with teethering on the xt network. Not sure which carrier file they use but it works.

Most likely they're still on old versions of Apple OS prior to 3.1
