Is your wifi set as ad hoc or a router ?, this makes a difference apparently,
To get the phone to connect to the laptop you have to install the Sync program and drivers, then when it is happy the phone is installed go to My computer and look for the phone in the list of drives, click on it and then click on usbautorun.exe to make it go, or alternatively set auto play on so it pops up on the screen with the prompt to run it, this will start the program and find the phone. very obscure!!!!
