Okay, I know this has most likely been discussed here before, but I am going to add
my own two cents to the mix.

I've been a telecom customer since they first launched the old Go Large plan (which I didn't
really have much problem with).
About two months or so again, i was basically TALKED into changing to Big Time, because they
told me it was pretty much the same cost (it's not) for a faster internet UNLIMITED internet
connection (it's not).

Big Time!!

That speedtest was done this morning - and that is a shocking speed for so-called unlimited broadband.
Telecom is one of New Zealand's biggest company's - you would think they would be able to do better than that wouldn't you?

I called them up and spent over 40 minutes on the phone to someone who could not speak a WORD of the Queens English, and told me it was basically all MY fault, that there was nothing wrong from their end.

Well, obviously there IS - I tested eveyrthing they told me, nothing improved - in fact, it's got slightly WORSE as the morning has progressed.

ANOTHER thing I want to mention (and ask if anyone else has had problems with it) is the file hosting network known as Rapidshare?
Rapidshare is NOT a p2p netrwork, although Telecom has told me that they COULD possibly be throttling bandwidth to that website.
This is absolutely bloody pathetic! Come on - get with the goddamn program Telecom - pull your bloody finger out and sort this mess out!!!

Just complained and the woman said 'we cover our bases by the terms and condition of BigTime plan which were read to you'!!!!!
She also mentioned school holidays start oday so 'everyone will be on it'.

I explained to her that there will be more complaints and negativity since they introduced this useless service Bigtime than is worth them offering it.

It took 30 seconds to load the telecom website and 37 sec to run the 500kb speedtest.

THIS IS NOT BROADBAND!

I know I'm doing something wrong. As freitasm likes to tell: 90% of customers problems with broadband are inside their house.

check your modem/router, try new/another one.

Ha.

HA HA

HA HA HA.

That answers my question if its worth going to big time then.

i too used to be a "Go Large" customer and they actually moved me off the plan three times without authorisation. I had to ring each time and DEMAND they put me back on.

Absolute gits.

The force is strong with this one!

Seriously, you couldn't do a very quick search or look in the 'Telecom New Zealand, XT Network, Okta, Yahoo!Xtra' forum? There are several active threads about this, and your revelations are nothing new. Try having a look in telecom big time plan trouble thread. Telecom specifically mention "we manage all the traffic on Big Time" on their website in regards to Big Time. Go Large was being dis-continued, in their Terms of Service they are allowed to change or discontinue a plan at anytime. In regards to RapidShare, this is actually shapped by quite a few ISP's in NZ because it is a huge source of bandwidth (not all of it legit either).

What were your line stats before and after the switch?

Yup bigtime is a massive piece of sh**. Rapidshare, megashare, hotfile etc... dl at about 5 - 10kbps now. Its ridiculous, the only online video I can watch is off youtube, other sites just dont buffer fast enough (even if they are left for 10 minutes previously, I will only get about 2 minutes of video). I was on go large aswell and I was forced off. Go large was also heaps faster albeit only adsl2.

Internet in NZ is a bag of fail.

Before the high and mighty come along spouting economies of scale and other BS,I know all this and have lived in many countries around the globe where internet is actually useable for reasonable rates Im just saying how annoying it is here.

Exactly. And the response about it being the school holidays so everyone is on it is also a load of BS, if your infastructure cant handle the jandle then ffs do something about it like add more capacity.
