radionut: I am continuing to try to find the cause – I have found that my home computer syncs correctly to my 6255, it is just my office computer that does not. Both computers are running Windows XP, the office computer running Outlook 2003, home running Outlook 2002.

I found that I was running PC Suite vn 6.5 at home, and vn 6.6 at the office, so uninstalled at the office and loaded 6.5, but this did not solve the problem.

My thought is that the problem cannot be caused by the current date/time setting on the computer or the phone – the problem is that appointments, way in the future, are entered with an incorrect start and finish time, it does not relate to the actual time of the transfer of the information. The problem occurs no matter what time the phone or the PC is set to at the time of the sync.

It seems to be that the PC program, either Outlook, or the PC suite doing the transfer, is forgetting to correct the appointment times for daylight saving. Maybe it thinks the external device (the phone) is in a different time zone?


It isn't Outlook, I think the mistake is in the PC Suite software failing to read the time adjustment correctly. Windows stores timezone information with a Bias (timezone adjustment), StandardBias (the difference between Bias and standard time, usually zero) and a DaylightBias (the difference between UTC Bias and daylight time). An application that did not know the system had changed to daylight saving time might not read the DaylightBias adjustment and thus calculate the local time incorrectly, since Bias will be unchanged. That is my theory.

Thanks all for the comments again – I await with eager impatience for version 6.7, and a fix. Life is very frustrating until then, as I use my 6255 as my diary, in a busy business life.

I also have this problem with a Nokia 6610i. I had downloaded the latest 6.6 PC Suite software and was also tearing my hair out! After reading this thread I will await the updated software from Nokia

this is what I got from nokia

On the handset
- Ensure that auto update of Time and Date setting on your phone is switched off. Please note that with Nokia CDMA phones, this setting is network dependant. Thus we would suggest to contact your network provider to confirm the availability of this service.

On the PC
-Go task Manager(bottom right of the screen)> select Adjust Date and Time Properties > select the Time zone folder > Please ensure that the 'Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes' is not selected

I went straight to the "on the pc" section and disabled it then added an hour and this worked. But still, cant wait for the update from Nokia

I have had a Nokia 6100 for a couple of years and I've been synching it with my Windows XP computer here at work since I got the phone. I would have been using Outlook XP (2002) during the first period of daylight saving time (Adelaide, South Australia), but I am pretty sure that last year I was using Outlook 2003 just as I am now. The only thing that has changed since then as far as I know is the version of Nokia PC Suite that I am using on my computer - I am now using v6.6 and getting an hour's discrepancy in appointment times, whereas last summer when things were working I was probably using v6.3 or v6.4.

Nokia's advice to just turn off DST adjustments is a nonsense in a corporate Active Directory domain. It is also akin to a mechanic telling you just not to use your engine when you tell them you have an engine problem.

I tried replacing v6.6 with v6.3 or v6.4 on my computer yesterday, but neither of those would communicate with my Outlook 2003 after install. I surveyed users here who had had v6.6 to see how they're faring. One other was having a similar problem using it with Outlook 2000, but others had reported having already reverted to v6.1 to overcome other synching issues they were having.

Why am I getting a synching feelig about Nokia ... ?

For what it's worth my 6225 synchs fine using PC Suite 5.22 (which I think is still available for download), it was only when I upgraded to 6.6 yesterday that I hit this problem. Will reinstall the earlier version until a fix comes along.

I am very interested in your result sarnold, I had vesion 6.6, un-installed this and instaleld an eralier version,a dn the problem stayed there.... I asusme there is asomehtying in teh woodwork that the new version leaves in place.

Have now reinstalled v5.22 and apart from having to clean up the wrong appointments v6.6 had written everything is working perfectly.

Arrgh… I have wasted hours of my day on this one today….

My problem that prompted this thread was with my office computer. After confirmation that some were not experiencing the problem tried a sync to my home computer, and it worked correctly! No time offset errors! This is not useful though, as I use the phone as a work-time diary.

I then noted that I was running PC Suite 6.6 at the office, but 6.5 at home – so, I hopefully uninstalled 6.6 and installed 6.5 in the office, however – no change.

After reading of sarenold’s success today, I uninstalled again, and installed version 5.22 hoping for a solution – however… durn – now I recall all those annoying lock-ups, failures and frustrations I was experiencing when I first got my 6255, PC Suite 5.x is flaky! There is no way I can get version 5.22 to sync to my bluetooth connection – it displays the phone in the setup ok, and I can browse the phone with PC Suite, but the synchronise application shows the connection greyed out, and refuses to try.

I un-installed (restarted) and re-installed each version several times, and confirmed that version 6.5 and 6.6 will work, but with a daylight saving time error, but 5.22 will not sync.

Sorry about the long post – but it has been a long day..

Roll on the bug fix from Nokia!

I have been trying to get the message through to "Ask Nokia" to let their developers know that there REALLY IS a problem with PC Suite 6.6. To date they have not been helpful because they presume the fault is with all of us and not with their one piece of software.

Can I encourage all of you to let them know that you are having these problems, that you've analysed the problems and that it has to be their software that is to blame.

They need to realise that we are all losing faith in their products because of this fault. The problem makes what was a really useful device worse than useless because it's now unreliable and giving us false reminders. More than one of us must be looking at alternate brands if Nokia cannot support us better. For those of us using their phones in a corporate environment, that could be costly not only for us, but for Nokia, as well.

I thought I read in another thread something about a new software version coming out later this year? Wasn't it for this problem?

Ok people once again: (especially for those who only read the topic title and not the posts before they put their comment)

The daylight problem during sync is a software bug in the Nokia PCSuite program.
Nothing to do with your PC's.

Nokia sw developers promised a new PCSuite (6.7) to be released this November. Please be patient, read this topic carefully and you will find the same I wrote a couple of post earlier..
