XT Network seems to be down in Christchurch... switched my phone on at 6am no service... travelled to work and still no service... not just me either. Anyone know what's happening?

Telecom have jusat acknowledged an issue with all XT sites south of Taupo.

Network appears to be completely dead.

Not just Christchurch, it's down in Wellington too for at least the past hour.

This has happened to me twice before in Christchurch, a few months ago it was down from midnight until 8am.

I downgraded back to CDMA a number of weeks ago due to simply wanting to use my faithful old samsung device and mum's place is one of the few areas that gets good CDMA but lacks XT coverage then all the outages began. Phew!

Edit: added some text the iphone and errant finger had trashed, too early in thw morning

I can't beleave how un reliable this network is. I was on telecom CDMA for a good 4 years and don't remember it going down once. Xt for 5 months and this would have to be the fourth or fifth time i havnt been able to use my phone.

This event is affecting all customers south of Taupo.

Switched from CDMA to XT on Friday - now our business, which relies on mobiles to communicate with staff in the field, has stopped and no-one at Telecom can say anything for over an hour other than "the network is down between Taupo and Christchurch" and we don't know what the problem is and we don't know when it will be fixed.  Reading comments above that this is a regular occurence on the XT network does not help.

With CDMA we at least got txt warnings when the network was going to be down.

Well I'm in Wellington and much as I dislike Vodafone they are about to gain another business customer - at least their network is robust and coverage is better even if the transition to them is a pain.

I see now why Richard Hammond isn't coming on the Top Gear tour - I'd be very embarrassed in his position too!

I hope they take a serious look at the stability of their network after this and all the other outages.
