One would expect that, if someone would do a review (even if partly) especially from a reputable firm, they would be a bit more than substantial than what Paul Brislen in the above review has done.
Seriously I am very disappointed in the review he has done. I own an Apache & consider it to be a Million times better than the Harrier in every respect. Him comparing the Apache & the Harrier based on what his fingers felt them to be seems really amateurish and to top it off, he calls it a 2$ phone.
I know there are Telecom employees on this forum. I was wondering why bother sending a free phone to such a person who rates the value of a device based on what people around him squeal about. Towards the end of it seemed like he was just covering his words up by praising Telecom for something which quite possibly isn't viable as a VOIP service whether in NZ or Overseas would require a constant internet access and as such would kill off the whole meaning of being Mobile.
Just My 2c on the whole sending free Apaches to such "Amateur" self proclaimed Journalists.
Would be better off, if it was given to someone who would do a true unbiased review of a product similar to what is here on GeekZone.

Hmmm. Interesting review: some novel idea on having the device as a Wi-Fi enabler for international roaming, but still, as you say in your post...

Yes I thought he made a very quick leap from Apache has WiFi interface therefore Telecom should offer internet visible VoIP. There seemed to be distinct lack of appreciation for how much work would be required, technically, commercially and regulatory.

What he should've mentioned was something like Skype.

I wholeheartedly agree with your opinion about this review. I read it this morning in the hard copy of Computerworld and was more than disappointed. To tell you the truth, after reading this article in the computerworld I actually closed the thing and chucked in the bin without reading anything else in it.

It may seem slightly dramatic, but for a publication that is already suspect in it's content levels, this just enforced my opinion that there are better IT reads out there.

"the Apache does look like a water pistol in disguise from Geoff’s Emporium" - what the..??

Clown, leave your "excited squealing" noises out of what is meant to be a reputable publication.

Agreed, I read that today and was going to write him an email on his "$2 shop" effort of a review on what is possibly the best device Telecom has on it's network..

Further on in the article he goes on to talk about a VoIP service via Wifi, which would only be viable with proper QoS
