We have an 8gb mobile broadband plan. Our usual data stick is a telecom branded one (most recent model) but it stopped working (after only two months) so is currently being repaired.

Telecom have loaned us another stick in the interim - sierra wireless compass 885.

My partner and I link our laptops via crossover cable so we can both get the net off one connection. This worked fine with the telecom t-stick, but we cant seem to get a decent connection on the laptop without the stick using the sierra wireless stick.

Installed the stick on both laptops, kept the settings the same as our other data stick and no joy. Initially we managed to get a connection - but it kept dropping off. Now we cant even get a connection on the second laptop (the connection on the host laptop is fine).

I swear I have uninstalled, restarted etc about 4 times but still no luck :(

Any suggestions?

I am surpsied to hear you have problems. Especially with the 885.

They are great cards from my experience. Might be worth un-isntalling the drivers, and perhaps downloading the latest 3G dialer from the Sierra Site.

I have a Sierra 881 PCMCIA card I got of Trademe recently, and it works very well, better signal strength than the ZTE's thats for sure.

The MF636 configures itself as a dial up connection where as the sierra configures itself as a wireless lan connection.

Are you using Internet Connection Sharing in windows to share the mobile bb connection, if so which version of windows?

Here for windows vista

Here for XP
