I have recently installed an XT network T stick  for my internet to my desktop computer. I am using eudora 6.2 for my emails.

Internet and receiving emails is working fine but I cant send emails

Can anyone help me with my settings - Telecom dont seem to have a clue about eudora and furthermore it doesnt help that I am using a mac

I have my own domain name and have an outside server but previously had smtp.xtra.co.nz as my smtp.
Telecom told me to change it to send.xtra.co.nz but it still doesnt work

can anyone else help me??? what are they missing??

I use this for my business so it is crucial to get it going ASAP as I cant get wired broadband here.

no error message - it just stays in the Queue and wont send at all

If the domain isn't hosted by us, I'd suggest that is why you can't use our smtp, generally allowing non-verified domains to send via smtp is a bad thing as anyone could easily setup a domain and use it to send large volumes of spam. So in saying that, you should probably contact the host for the smtp server address, instructions can be found here to setup Eudora (sub in your smtp settings)

Do you actually have an Xtra account? You can't use the xtra SMTP server unless you do.

Vodafone have their own public SMTP server for sending email but Telecom do not.

yes I have a xtra account and it is set to send through that - as I said it was working fine before i got this XT thing - I used telecom broadband with no problems before with my own domain etc...

If you are using send.xtra.co.nz, are you using SSL, Port 465, with outgoing authentication?

unfortunately the link you have provided is not for "eudora for mac " its for a PC - that is half the problem - and no one at telecom knows and I am so fed up. I just need someone who knows eudora and what the email settings should be - I had one guy trying to get me to make new personalities and then he handed me to the next person who guided me through a PC format .. ,, IN fact I am so fed up with telecom - my fax doesnt work properly and a guy came and spent 7 hours trying to get our hopeless landline working and still hasnt finished and we have a temporary line across our driveway.
God help me - how do people run businesses in the countryside????

Yes I realised it was for a PC, but I thought the generic Port info etc might translate to Eudora - however I'm in no way familiar with Eudora, so I guess not.

sorry allan not your link the one from doozy - I still cant work it out from what you gave me though either sorry.

What I need to know is there anything different from normal broadband to XT wireless apart from the SMTP server? ie changing smtp.xtra.co.nz to send.xtra.co.nz as surely that would tell me what needed to change. thanks for any help

Had you by any chance previously opted out of Port 25 filtering when you were using smtp.xtra.co.nz? I assuming that was on a wired Telecom broadband connection?

the domain email address will need to be added to the xtra account, and verified as you own it to send emails via send.xtra.co.nz:

email settings being:
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop3.xtra.co.nz (Use SSL, port: 995)
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: send.xtra.co.nz (Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication)
Server requires a secure connection (SSL is required)
Outgoing mail server requires authentication
Account Name/Login Name: Your Xtra username (your email address without the "@xtra.co.nz")
Email Address: Your Xtra email address (eg. username@xtra.co.nz )
Password: Your Xtra password

I'd still recommend the easier way would be to get pop/smtp settings from your email provider (whoever hosts the domain).

as for setup instructions, the helpdesk support many mail clients and operating systems but unfortunately can't support all of them, Eudora have a support site, I'd recommend having a look there for setup instructions:

Eudora for Windows will provide fairly comprehensive logging if you set the correct values in the .ini file. 

 One can get a report about security certificates in Eudora for Windows by looking at the  Eudora “Properties” in the particular mail personality (Eg last SSL info).

If similar features are available in the Eudora Mac version, that might give you a better idea where the problem is occurring.

I got fed-up with the "spam" filtering and e-mail set-up débâcle when Xtra switched to Yahoo for consumer-degrade e-mail. Moved personal e-mail account to Actrix - NB they actually have instructions how to set up Mac Eudora! And now Actrix even have an e-mail security (SSL) certificate from a recognised authority (Connections Secure CA) rather than the apparently self-generated one they used to use. 

 Lastly, using Actrix secure pop & smtp via the XT network works fine for me.

I’ll add that the business-grade officemail service at Xtra has been fine, and Telecom’s Complex Technical Support did follow up effectively an issue with their mail interface provider regarding Eudora.

thanks everyone for your assistance as a result of a very friendly telecom man last night who rang me back - he suggested I swap over to mac mail - have done so and now all is fine - its much easier to set up the correct settings.

now to solve the problem with the fax machine :) - any suggestions anyone!!??

I have a dual line with a bit of a fault at present and so they have put in a temporary cable - however faxes come through as blank pages - we dont have faxability here so I have a dual line - would the fault in the line affect the fax coming through ??? or is it my settings - any suggestions doozy??
