Heya did you know that iif your landlline is connected to Telecom you can actualy order Telecoom phones over the phone? all you need to do is pay the phone off before your bill comes and its sort of like a hire purchase without the interest in which is you get your phone even before you pay it off. You get your phone couriered to you within 48 hours and then all you need to do is pay the phone off before the bill comes.

I got a Sanyo 5600 on 12 monthly payments on my home phone bill with no interest.

You can get all the same deals + local service at a dealer... I fail to understand why people would do this....

Local dealer = local knowledge, promos, the odd bit of free stuff, and a friendly understanding person (in most cases) should you have warranty issues...

if a cellphone needs repairing that you purchased from Telecom hq then all you need to do is take it to a telecom store and tell them about your problem and where you purchased it from.

correct, so why not do the right thing and support a local business that provides jobs in your town (for no extra cost than going straight to the telco) ?

If -everyone- bought their phones straight from Telecom, there would be -no- local dealer still in business to deal with your warranty issues...

And you get to SEE THE HANDETS IN THE FLESH (or plastic)

None of this "if you open the box you accept the phone but not until you realize how tiny the keypad is/how silent the ringotnes are, how cr4ppy the screen is.

I have NEVER bought a phone off the "phone" for those reasons. Mum did and got a Nokia 2280, Shrill voice quality, almost mute ringtones, hideous keypad and battery life on par with 025 Analog :-(

She loves my sanyo 4920, I wouldn't have touched this phone just looking at it but I like it alot, (good battery, Loud ringotones, crystal clear speech)
A dealer sold this to me as being a good phone and it was.

peh.. people are lazy.

They can see the handset in the store, ask all the questions... and then later, when the partner agrees and payday rolls around they can phone up and get the new toy....

s/they/I/gi

yeah, it's "wrong".. that's where the traditional retail model needs to change. The little stores are generating sales for the online and central callcentre stores.

(... preaching to the choir)

That's where Sony might be onto a good thing, They have sony show rooms, where you can buy if you really want - but really they are showrooms for people to consider the products and then purchase elsewhere.

If everyone purchased AirNZ tickets on-line from AirNZ there would be no travel agents - I can't remember the last time I went to a travel agent....

Except when their system is not working and you have to pay $30 for an over the phone booking - which for me has been most of the times, since overseas trips can't be booked from their Air Dollars site, upgrades are not available unless over the phone, etc...

Or you could fly a "real" airline that has a functioning website, not one that just looks "modern"

airnz seem to have fixed their website... at least it now works in Opera.

So i filled out their contact form saying how wonderful that it now works - and ended up talking to a auto-responser script somewhere that was looking for an answer from it's database to reply to my praise, and failing....

and i'm OT again.. *sigh*
