While by no means scientific or conclusive, I just thought I'd highlight this:

Telecom XT Seeedtest  Vodafone Speedtest

I feel like I should just order an iPhone and test myself - I doubt many people in Johnsonville use 3G in the middle of a weekday.

Seriously though, speed tests are not conclusive. It could be great for you in CHC, and absolutely appaling for me in Johnsonville (which I know it will be in Vodafone's case*).

It all depends...

* When Vodafone released the Vodem I had great speeds here. Blazing fast. Then one day, suddenly, it went down. Bad speeds, one bar signal only. Johnr did some tests, but never told me the results. I was told by another source Vodafone had redirected the panels in Johnsonville. My wife still uses Vodafone and the reception is still bad on this side of the village. So I know any tests I do here will show Telecom XT as a winner. But as I said before YMMV obviously.

The Telecom mast is twice as far as the VF one from where I am + my XT data card was going at the same time and there was someone in the house on a call :-)

You may not be attached to that site though - phones attach the ones with the greatest power, so might be different to the one you can see.

Juha, post the speedtest from the HSPA+ trial. That'll stop them in their tracks!

Why don't you get a real device? 122kbps upstream is terrible.

Who needs upload speeds on an iPhone? It's shinny, it's got an Apple logo on the back.

I know which Telecom tower I'm connected to, but the Vodafone one? Well, there are two roughly about the same distance from my house - it could be either, but it really shouldn't make that much of a difference.

I'm in Wellington, Freitasm, but the Chch server was automatically picked for me - no idea why.

Exactly!!

My T-Stick @ work gets roughly 18mbits down with HSPA+ - no prizes for guessing with which network, though.
