Anyone experiencing problems with XT today?

My wife and I had been having intermittent problems with our phones this morning with calls dropping or not going through, now we can't ring or receive calls.

All the work phones in our office are down. Showing as full bars but no calling. We're in Auckland.

Sounds like a single cell issue

Who knows. I was a bit slow in posting this, we had no service for about 30 minutes and others that I know across Auckland were affected but things seem to be slowly coming right.

There were apparently some issues on one of the Auckland RNC's affecting voice, sms and data which caused some issues for a short period of time.

I'm working today with a customer with several hundred XT phones around the country.  Auckland users on XT are calling in to the helpdesk with symptoms of dropped calls, calls failing to connect, long delays on messages, etc, etc.

A colleague was on the phone to the Gen-i account manager, who said that there was a SIM-ugprade pushed to Telecom-internal phones overnight, so that might be the first hint of a root cause (aside from sbiddle's comment about the RNC).

As for single cell, we can rule that out..... issues reported in Grafton, East Tamaki, Henderson

Where's the 'network status' page for XT these days? Last time round the @TelecomNZ twitter account had a bit to say, but they seem (oddly) silent today.

It seems the issue may be affecting a single RNC which is presumably causing issues with all sites off that RNC.

Telecom now have 2 RNC's in AUckland which are load & geographically balanced so some people may not be experienging issues if they're on a site running off the 2nd RNC.

freitasm: It seems there's a problem affecting 100+ sites - this time north of Taupo.

I just hope they can get it fixed very quickly, otherwise this will be another PR nightmare for them.

I didn't take the phone call. Colleague got off the phone and said that he had been told that a switch had failed at "meora dr". He was wondering if they meant "Meola Rd" initially, but the person on the other end of the phone said no to that. Between a a bit of lateral thinking and the fact that I once-upon-a-time worked in the Mayoral Dr datacentre, I suggested that, and it seems likely that thats what they (I gather there is a thick accent, and no local knowledge at the other end of that phone line) meant.

My guess: "Switch" is likely to be the "dumbed down" term that gets chucked around when non-Geek conversations about a RNC fail occur.
