@John Trust me its not the RNC, there are some issues with degraded performance around some of the cell sites in the wider Auckland area. Being worked on though.

Hey guys,

Yes we are having some issues with customers north of the north island (including AKL). The issues have affected some cellsites linked to the Auckland RNC.

The two Christchurch RNC's and the second Auckland based RNC sites are unaffected. We're working to resolve it will let you know any updates.

Cheers,
Amber

from telecoms website

We are currently experiencing issues with our XT Mobile network affecting customers in the north of the North Island, including Auckland. This means customers may experience problems with calling, text messages and using Mobile Broadband services. We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing. We are working hard to resolve this issue and will continue to update this message as we learn more. This message was updated (8th April 11:45).

started to see issues from 9am. seems to be ok for me now.

And for those people before you mock me, the "top of the north island" if that makes more sense for us all ;)

Thanks Akia for the update. This is pretty much the same I received from Telecom some minutes ago.

What a bag of sh*te, living in a duopoly market with one of the 'opolies' having a network that's utterly pants.

Over 50% of the population is covered by 3 different networks. The majority of people are still with one of the two major networks but it doesn't mean there isn't a choice out there. I'd hardly call that a doupoly.

For all those experts out there, this was not an RNC issue.

As a customer of 'the other one' (thank God) I know there are choices but you could hardly say 2Degrees is a direct competitor to VF or Telecom yet until it has monthly plans and 3G so what is it if not a duopoly?

And to make matters worse, both networks overcharge and 'give away' next to nothing for the price you pay.

Coming from the UK, the 'choice' in all aspects of telecoms here is nothing short of pathetic
