UnitedWeFall: Well got the phone today and it's incredible :D

However I do have 1 major issue... There's a LOT of Telstra crap and other pre-installed stuff on the phone and i've only got about 100mb of storage left which isn't going to be enough for apps.

Does anyone know how to delete the crap Telstra puts on the phone?

Hello I am thinking about getting the nextG desire form Mobcity, is it as good as i think it is? have you done anything special to it etc?

Yes the phone is amazing. You won't regret buying it.

However if I had another chance I wouldn't get the Telstra version. It has a lot of Telstra apps on it that you can't get rid of, and it is extremely hard to flash a new ROM onto it because the particular model has GPS issues.

If you can, get the non-Telstra version so you get a nice clean ROM with no crap pre-installed.

I got mine yesterday and although I am still coming to grips with it I am fairly impressed so far.

The Telstra apps are a pain but you can avoid them to some extent by deleting the widgets on the personal screens and putting links to your apps there.

The other option if you are brave enough is to root the handset and then put a customised ROM on it.  I think someone has posted on the forum saying they had done it. Not sure I am brave enough at this stage.

Good luck.

I would love to get a non branded phone - but it looks like you can only get an XT compatible one via mobcity. Unless there is another place ? anyone?

I just went to Telecom in Wellington and they said they were getting a new HTC phone in the next month or so, they couldn't tell me if it was a desire or not, the chap even went as far as to say the model they were getting was better - I had to laugh

I don't wish to highjack this thread, but need some regarding these phones.
I'm in two minds as to get this or the iphone. I currently have an imac, and will get an apple laptop (in time) now my vaio has s..t itself.
So I was wondering would iTunes work uploading music to this phone, as the imac is the only computer I have at home. So don't really won't to get a phone I can't load music on, that's really the big concern for me at the moment, and probably the main issue for me.
I would like everything to be compatible.

Thanks

If you really really want an iphone, wait till Jobs announces the 4G (or whatever it's going to be) tomorrow.

I don't think the desire integrates with itunes, but you can just mount the SD card as a USB MSD, so it just shows up as another drive and just copy your mp3s/etc straight over to it :) No itunes needed.

You can sync the Desire with iTunes using an app called "iSyncr"

I got mine from Mobicity last week. Got the Telstra clear version so works on XT. Now, I have been playing with it for a bit and like it a lot but I do want to root it and get rid of all the Telstra crap...

Has anyone rooted a HTC Desire NextG before? How do I get on with this? Any suggestions or references on the internet around this?

Is the procedure different than if you would have a non telstra one? Different driver or daemon needed for the 850Mhz HSPDA in contrast to the 900MHz unlocked one?

Cheers

Interested in this phone, $891.47 including shipping using coupon code SN10 from mobicity.
Are there any other places to buy it?

A big buy, i might wait till it gets a little more popular though, and i really want to get 2.2 Froyo as it has some features which are exactly what i'm after.

There's clove.co.uk, which is 330gbp (So, depending on the exchange rate)..
Be aware that the one from clove (or anywhere else besides aussie, it seems) is 900/2100mhz UMTS.. so will only work on 2d's/vodafone.

I think there's some custom 2.2 ROMS for the desire, but no official HTC 2.2 release yet

Im interested in buying this phone for my brother and i have to say it looks awesome in terms of features. But he'll be using it on Vodafone or 2Degrees.
Just a question, i have been looking over it at Mobicity which it seems most of you have purchased it from and have noticed it doesnt have a secondary camera which i am assuming means No video calls? Correct me if im wrong but isnt that almost a standard feature with hi-spec phones over the last couple of years?

Also how did you guys find the buying experience from Mobicity? Any positives/negatives?

Cheers

No it doesn't have a second camera unfortunately. That would be the only thing its missing.

And mobicity are excellent.

Not sure if mobicity has the european version of the Desire, you should check first! (900/2100mhz UMTS if you're going to use it on 2ds/vodafone)

Clove has totally run out of stock, they're expecting more end of June. (Which means place the order now if you want it! http://www.clove.co.uk/viewProduct.aspx?manufacturer=HTC&item=HTCDesire-Graphite&product=32C8AD9B-E300-4267-BEC1-DE55F02D0184 )

Did you use Coupon Code SN10 for a further $20 off?
